Best Bets and Quick Picks
Presque Isle Downs: Race 1: Allowance (six furlongs on Tapeta, 12:30 p.m. ET)
#5 Boogie Woogie (2-1) kicked off 2026 with a career-best performance in a six-furlong $25,000 claimer at Presque Isle Downs. She led all the way to dominate by 2 3/4 lengths, earning an 80 Brisnet Speed rating.
The par winning Brisnet Speed rating for Thursday’s conditions is only 77, so Boogie Woogie appears well-spotted to snag a second straight victory. We’ll key her over #2 Shez Untappable (3-1) and #1 Out in the Cold (5-2) in exacta and trifecta tickets.
Selections
- #5 Boogie Woogie (2-1)
- #2 Shez Untappable (3-1)
- #1 Out in the Cold (5-2)
Wagers
- $10 Exacta: 5 with 1,2 ($20)
- $5 Trifecta: 5 with 1,2 with 1,2 ($10)
Total: $30
Canterbury Park: Race 5: $15,000 Claiming (one mile on turf, 8:20 p.m. ET)
Five of the six entrants in this race were beaten in a $15,000 claimer over the Canterbury Park turf course last month. The lone exception is #6 Catch a Wave (7-2).
Catch a Wave is dropping in class after finishing fourth in an allowance and sixth in a $20,000 allowance optional claimer, both racing one mile over the Canterbury Park turf course. Dropping down in class while adding blinkers could potentially unlock a winning performance, so let’s place a win bet on Catch a Wave and bet him over #2 Crew Dragon (9-5) in an exacta for good measure.
Selections
- #6 Catch a Wave (7-2)
- #2 Crew Dragon (9-5)
- #3 Shotgun Runner (2-1)
Wagers
- $24 to win on #6 Catch a Wave
- $6 Exacta: 6 with 2
Total: $30
Canterbury Park: Race 7: Maiden Special Weight (one mile on turf, 9:20 p.m. ET)
#3 Saint Robert’s Row (6-1) hasn’t factored in two starts sprinting on dirt in Kentucky. However, he’s eligible to improve while switching to turf, stretching out in distance, and adding Lasix for his first start as a gelding.
Under hot jockey Constantino Roman (a 24% winner at Canterbury Park this meet), Saint Robert’s Row is worthy of a win bet.
Selections
- #3 Saint Robert’s Row (6-1)
- #2 Fleet Brotato (2-1)
- #4 English Icon (9-2)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #3 Saint Robert’s Row
Canterbury Park: Race 8: $25,000 Claiming (seven furlongs on dirt, 9:50 p.m. ET)
#1 Everything Bugs Me (2-1) has spent much of his career competing on turf. He’s only run on dirt twice, finishing second in a $40,000 claimer and third in a $20,000 claimer during the spring at Oaklawn Park.
Those efforts yielded respectable Brisnet Speed ratings of 72 and 75. Everything Bugs Me may find the competition a bit easier at Canterbury Park, where he recently won a $12,500 allowance optional claimer on turf with a 77 Brisnet Speed rating.
Let’s try a win bet on Everything Bugs Me.
Selections
- #1 Everything Bugs Me (2-1)
- #3 Our Best Song (5-2)
- #2 Toffee (3-1)
Wagers
- $30 to win on #1 Everything Bugs Me
Good luck!
