Best Bets and Quick Picks
Finger Lakes: Race 4: Allowance (one mile on dirt, 2:22 p.m. ET)
#4 Mercilesanihilator (2-1) starred when making his route debut in a one-mile $25,000 claimer at Aqueduct two months ago. He stayed within 1 1/2 lengths of the pace before taking over to dominate by 3 1/4 lengths with a career-best 80 Brisnet Speed rating.
Mercilesanihilator appears well-spotted to bring his record running long to 2-for-2. Let’s key him over #6 Go Yoshida (9-5) in an exacta, the single him to start a double wager.
Selections
- #4 Mercilesanihilator (2-1)
- #6 Go Yoshida (9-5)
- #1 Evanderkeen (5-1)
Wagers
- $20 Exacta: 4 with 6
- $10 Double: 4 with 3
Total: $30
Finger Lakes: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 2:51 p.m. ET)
#3 Stayfrostymyfriend (7-2) has run reasonably well in his first two starts against $20,000 maiden claiming competition at Aqueduct, finishing fifth and sixth while earning Brisnet Speed ratings of 66 and 72.
Only one horse entered in Race 5 has run faster than Stayfrostymyfriend on the Brisnet Speed rating scale, and that was a long time ago. Shipping to Finger Lakes should make Stayfrostymyfriend tough to beat for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Christopher Elliott and Gregory Sacco, so we’ll single him to conclude our double wager, then bet him over #5 Grizz At the Gate (5-2) in an exacta.
Selections
- #3 Stayfrostymyfriend (7-2)
- #5 Grizz At the Gate (5-2)
- #2 Hamilton’s Reason (4-1)
Wagers
- $15 Exacta: 3 with 5
Presque Isle Downs: Race 4: $15,000 Maiden Claiming (one mile and 70 yards on Tapeta, 4:51 p.m. ET)
Trainer Arnaud Delacour wins at a powerful 44% rate with horses dropping multiple levels down the class ladder. This bodes well for #2 Band On the Run (2-1), who was last seen finishing second by one length in a $32,000 maiden claimer racing 1 1/16 miles over the Tampa Bay Downs turf course.
Band On the Run’s pedigree suggests he’ll handle the switch to Tapeta, and he’s picking up hot jockey Israel Rodriguez, a 22% winner at Presque Isle Downs this meet. A win bet is in order.
Selections
- #2 Band On the Run (2-1)
- #5 Nuts and Bolts (4-1)
- #1 Lillesand (7-2)
Wagers
- $35 to win on #2 Band On the Run
Carryover Watch
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 2: $12,055 Pick 4 carryover (2:41 p.m. ET)
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 4: $12,911 Pick 5 carryover (3:43 p.m. ET)
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: $7,018 Pick 4 carryover (4:14 p.m. ET)
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: $1,888 Super High 5 carryover (4:45 p.m. ET)
Get ready! There are four carryovers on the table for Tuesday at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
The $1 Early Pick 4 boasts a $12,055 carryover. The prize pool for the 50-cent Late Pick 5 stands at $12.911. The $1 Late Pick 4 has tossed up a $7,018 carryover, while the 50-cent “Grand High 5” Super High 5 has $1,888 up for grabs.
The most critical race to solve is Race 5, a $25,000 claimer for fillies and mares sprinting six furlongs on dirt. Race 5 is the last leg of the Early Pick 4, the first leg of the Late Pick 4, and the second leg of the Late Pick 5. If you fail to find the winner of Race 5, you’ll miss out on at least three of the four carryovers.
#3 Don’t Cross Alexis (8-5) is the morning-line favorite in Race 5. In her lone dirt race to date, she ran third in a six-furlong allowance at Horseshoe Indianapolis, beaten 5 1/2 lengths by next-out Corningstone H. winner Hot Middles. Dropping in class for a $25,000 claimer should make Don’t Cross Alexis formidable for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Irving Moncada and Randy Klopp.
Nevertheless, #6 What’s Up Dog (2-1) is worth using as backup. Two starts back, she ran second in a six-furlong $50,000 claimer at Oaklawn Park, beaten only 1 1/4 lengths while earning a 78 Brisnet Speed rating equal to the number Don’t Cross Alexis earned in her lone dirt start. Dropping down to the $25,000 level should put What’s Up Dog in the hunt for victory.
Meanwhile, the Super High 5 carryover is up for grabs in Race 6, which is also part of the Late Pick 4 and Late Pick 5. Race 6 is a $15,000 starter optional claimer taking place over one mile on turf, though with rain in the forecast, it’s possible the Race 6 will be switched from turf to dirt.
#6 Boitano (5-2) is a logical favorite. He boasts a 12-7-3-2 record on grass and earned a sharp series of Brisnet Speed ratings while recording top-three finishes in five straight $10,000 starter optional claimers at Fair Grounds during the winter. If Race 6 stays on turf, we recommend singling Boitano in the multi-race wagers and keying him on top in the Super High 5.
Boitano is also a capable performer on dirt, but if Race 6 is rained off the turf, we’ll single and key main-track-only entrant #11 Takeitandrun (3-1 instead. Last time out, Takeitandrun led all the way to obliterate a $10,000 starter optional claimer at Horseshoe Indianapolis by 8 1/4 lengths. He boasts a few blowout wins over this track and will be tough to catch if circumstances allow him to compete.
Good luck!
