Best Bets and Quick Picks

Parx Racing: Race 7: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 3:22 p.m. ET)

The experienced runners in this field of Pennsylvania-bred juvenile fillies don’t appear unbeatable, so we’ll try backing first-time starter #6 Mommy Makeover (4-1).

A daughter of Maclean’s Music (who sires a solid 14% winners from first-time starters), Mommy Makeover has put together a sharp work tab capped off by a bullet half-mile from the Parx starting gate in :47.

We’ll place a win bet on Mommy Makeover.

Selections

  • #6 Mommy Makeover (4-1)
  • #5 Peaches N Dreams (8-1)
  • #3 Vandalism (3-1)

Wagers

  • $25 to win on #6 Mommy Makeover

Parx Racing: Race 8: Allowance (one mile and 70 yards on dirt, 3:49 p.m. ET)

#4 Drum Roll Please (2-1), winner of the 2024 Jerome S., has tactical speed, but isn’t a need-the-lead type. He has every chance to sit a perfect trip in this allowance for Pennsylvania-breds, which contains quite a bit of pace on paper.

Drum Roll Please finished third at this track, distance, and class level on Sept. 1, but he may have raced a bit too close to the pace. A little different setup on Tuesday can send Drum Roll Please to the winner’s circle for the red-hot jockey/trainer duo of Melvis Gonzalez and Juan Guerrero, who have gone 6-for-10 (60%) teaming up together over the last two months.

A win bet is in order.

Selections

  • #4 Drum Roll Please (2-1)
  • #1 Our Notion (5-2)
  • #5 Cody Pass (8-1)

Wagers

  • $25 to win on #4 Drum Roll Please

Parx Racing: Race 9: Commonwealth Sire S. (seven furlongs on dirt, 4:16 p.m. ET)

#3 Lady Annabelle (9-5) has won six straight races at Parx by margins ranging from one length to 7 3/4 lengths. Along the way, she’s earned sharp Brisnet Speed ratings in the 85-94 range.

Lady Annabelle appears well-spotted to snag another win, even while stepping into the stakes ranks for the first time. Let’s key her over multiple stakes winner #7 Nature’s Candy (5-2) in a cold exacta.

Selections

  • #3 Lady Annabelle (9-5)
  • #7 Nature’s Candy (5-2)
  • #1 Presenceisapresent (8-1)

Wagers

  • $20 Exacta: 3 with 7

Carryover Watch

Parx Racing: Race 6: $62,991 Pick 5 mandatory payout (2:55 p.m. ET)

The 50-cent “Philly Big 5” Pick 5 at Parx Racing is normally a jackpot-style wager. But on Tuesday, the $62,991 carryover will be paid out in mandatory fashion. All bettors who assemble a winning ticket will earn a share of the prize pool.

Here’s how we recommend betting the sequence:

Wagers

  • 50-cent Pick 5: 4,9 with 4,5,6 with 1,4 with 3,7 with 2,3,5,8,9 ($60)
Race 6: $10,000 Starter Optional Claiming (six furlongs on dirt)

#9 Frost Mountain (4-1) has won three starts in a row—including one at this track and class level—with sharp Brisnet Speed ratings in the 87-92 range. But #4 Nancy Made My Day (5-1) has posted similar ratings in his best performances this year, and he could be ready for a peak effort in his second start back from a brief freshening.

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt)

We’ve already identified #6 Mommy Makeover (4-1) as our top choice, but for Pick 5 purposes, fellow first-time starter #5 Peaches N Dreams (8-1) and the experienced #4 Vandalism (3-1) are worth using as backup. Vandalism is shipping in off a runner-up debut at Penn National.

Race 8: Allowance (one mile and 70 yards on dirt)

#4 Drum Roll Please (2-1) is our top selection, but #1 Our Nation (5-2) has the Brisnet Speed ratings to challenge if he secures the early lead from the inside draw.

Race 9: Commonwealth Sire S. (seven furlongs on dirt)

As outlined previously, we believe #3 Lady Annabelle (9-5) has a good chance to record her seventh consecutive victory. But whereas Lady Annabella is tackling a stakes for the first time, #7 Nature’s Candy (5-2) has won multiple times against stakes competition and looms as the logical alternative if Lady Annabelle falters.

Race 10: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt)

A competitive maiden sprint for Pennsylvania-bred juveniles closes out the Pick 5. We’ll spread deep with #2 Cannonbury (9-2), #3 Chef Sparrow (8-1), #5 Prayed Up (10-1), #8 Hostility (8-1), and #9 Valhalla (3-1).

Good luck!
