Best Bets and Quick Picks

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 2: $20,000 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 2:41 p.m. ET)

None of the experienced entrants in this $20,000 maiden claimer look unbeatable, so let’s try betting first-time starter #4 T. L. Copper Still (9-2).

T. L. Copper Still enters off back-to-back bullet workouts at The Thoroughbred Center for trainer Ted Lucas, whose lifetime win percentage with first-time starters stands at a respectable 10%.

#2 Fine Tuned (2-1) can round out the exacta.

Selections

  • #4 T. L. Copper Still (9-2)
  • #2 Fine Tuned (2-1)
  • #6 Scoville Unit (4-1)

Wagers

  • $20 Exacta: 4 with 2

Presque Isle Downs: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (4 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 3:30 p.m. ET)

#1 Fistfulofmoney (5-2) showed promise when debuting in a five-furlong maiden special weight on dirt at Churchill Downs, closing from a couple lengths off the pace to finish second by half a length. She earned a 69 Brisnet Speed rating only one point lower than the par winning number (70) for Tuesday’s conditions at Presque Isle Downs.

Red-hot trainer Kevin Rice has gone 4-for-8 (50%) at Presque Isle this meet and wins at a 28% rate with horses switching from dirt to turf, so let’s place a win bet on Fistfulofmoney.

Selections

  • #1 Fistfulofmoney (5-2)
  • #4 Judy Chop (3-1)
  • #3 Thank You Amy (4-1)

Wagers

  • $30 to win on #1 Fistfulofmoney

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 7: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 5:16 p.m. ET)

#11 Forever Greedy (7-2) is probably too good for this field of Indiana-bred maidens. He was beaten only three-quarters of a length when finishing second against 11 rivals over this track and class level on May 3, then followed up with a runner-up finish in the Sagamore Sired H.

Those efforts yielded improving Brisnet Speed ratings of 72 and 77, the two highest numbers in Tuesday’s field. Dropping back down the class ladder can send Forever Greedy to the winner’s circle.

Selections

  • #11 Forever Greedy (7-2)
  • #6 Gotanotiontodrink (8-1)
  • #4 Whatnowdaddy (6-1)

Wagers

  • $30 to win on #11 Forever Greedy

Carryover Watch

Mountaineer: Race 8: $1,450 Super High 5 carryover (9:55 p.m. ET)

Although an even-money favorite prevailed in the Monday finale at Mountaineer, a series of double-digit longshots finishing third, fourth, and fifth ensured that no one solved the Super High 5. As a result, there’s a $1,450 Super High 5 carryover available to chase during Tuesday’s card.

The prize pool is up for grabs in Race 8, a $4,000 claimer for fillies and mares who haven’t won a race within the last year. The 5 1/2-furlong dirt dash has drawn 11 entries, including one also-eligible; assuming 10 horses start, there will be 30,240 possible Super High 5 outcomes to decipher.

Morning-line favorite #8 Seems to Whisper (3-1) is a logical contender. She’s finished second in three straight $4,000 claimers sprinting at Mountaineer, and she hasn’t missed the trifecta in her last five sprint starts. She’s earned competitive Brisnet Speed ratings of 70, 65, and 71 this year and has a strong chance to finish in the top two again.

If anyone can upend Seems to Whisper, it might be #3 Shake It Baby (7-2). The four-year-old filly isn’t the most consistent horse in training, and she exits a distant seventh-place finish in a $7,500 claimer dashing six furlongs at Parx Racing. But she’s run well several times since last fall, including when finishing a pacesetting second in a 5 1/2-furlong $5,000 claimer at Parx two starts back. She’s earned Brisnet Speed ratings of 71, 71, 73, and 72 in recent starts and has a strong chance to win on her best day.

#2 J P’s Gladys (6-1) is another logical contender after cracking the trifecta in three of her last four tries against $4,000 claiming competition at Mountaineer. She misfired in a $5,000 claimer at Mahoning Valley to kick off 2025, but she’s been freshened since January and enters off a sharp half-mile workout at Mountaineer, so returning to this track offers potential for a rebound under hot jockey Bailey Weatherly.

#9 Team Gold Digger (5-1) is well worth using too. She wrapped up 2024 with three straight runner-up finishes at Mountaineer, including in a couple of $4,000 claimers. If Team Gold Digger brings her A game to her 2025 debut, a top-five finish is well within reach.

Here’s how we recommend betting the Super High 5:

  • $1 Super High 5: 8 with 2,3,9 with 2,3,9 with 2,3,9 with 1,5,6,7 ($24)
  • $1 Super High 5: 8 with 2,3,9 with 2,3,9 with 1,5,6,7 with 2,3,9 ($24)
  • $1 Super High 5: 3 with 8 with 2,9 with 2,9 with 1,5,6,7 ($8)
  • $1 Super High 5: 3 with 8 with 2,9 with 1,5,6,7 with 2,9 ($8)
    Total: $64

Good luck!
