Best Bets and Quick Picks
Colonial Downs: Race 2: Maiden Special Weight (five furlongs on dirt, 1:05 p.m. ET)
#1 Adelita (5-2) showed promise in her debut dashing five furlongs over the Colonial Downs turf course. Sent off at 3-1 in a maiden special weight, she dueled for command through a sharp pace, then faltered to finish third by five lengths.
As a daughter of champion male sprinter Jackie’s Warrior (a five-time Grade 1 winner on dirt) out of a mare by perennial leading sire Into Mischief, Adelita has the pedigree to relish switching from turf to dirt. It helps that trainer Michael Campbell strikes at a powerful 27% rate with horses switching from turf to dirt.
A win bet on Adelita is in order.
Selections
- #1 Adelita (5-2)
- #6 Keys (6-1)
- #5 Alta Vista Chapel (12-1)
Wagers
- $30 to win on #1 Adelita
Colonial Downs: Race 4: $50,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (one mile on dirt, 2:06 p.m. ET)
#1 White Rocks (4-5) enters in hot form. She’s finished third and second in a pair of recent $80,000 allowance optional claimers racing one mile on dirt at Churchill Downs, earning sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 90 and 91.
The par winning Brisnet Speed rating for Race 4’s conditions is 89. White Rocks is fast enough to win a race like this, so let’s try keying her over #7 Kinzie Queen (6-1) in an exacta. Kinzie Queen ran third in the Black-Eyed Susan (G2) and Delaware Oaks (G3) last year.
Selections
- #1 White Rocks (4-5)
- #7 Kinzie Queen (6-1)
- #2 Gold Digging Broad (20-1)
Wagers
- $20 Exacta: 1 with 7
Assiniboia Downs: Race 1: Allowance (7 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 8:30 p.m. ET)
#2 Al Reichert (4-5) is the heavy morning-line favorite while dropping in class out of four straight stakes. But he hasn’t finished better than sixth in two starts this year and may be below his best form at the moment.
Let’s try to beat Al Reichert with #3 No Show No Call (5-2), who recently won a six-furlong $15,000 allowance optional claimer at Assiniboia. No Show No Call has placed at the stakes level racing one mile, so stretching out over 7 1/2 furlongs shouldn’t be an issue.
We’ll bet No Show No Call to win and key him over Al Reichert in an exacta.
Selections
- #3 No Show No Call (5-2)
- #2 Al Reichert (4-5)
- #4 Bettermakethattwo (15-1)
Wagers
- $15 to win on #3 No Show No Call
- $10 Exacta: 3 with 2
Total: $25
Good luck!
