Best Bets and Quick Picks
Finger Lakes: Race 2: $5,000 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 1:44 p.m. ET)
#6 Posse Rocks (3-1) has shown speed in each of his first five starts against tougher competition. He’s set the pace in his last two tries, including when finishing fourth by five lengths in an $11,000 maiden claimer at Finger Lakes.
Pacesetters have won 54% of 5 1/2-furlong sprints at Finger Lakes this meet, so dropping down the class ladder should make Posse Rocks tough to catch. Let’s bet him to win and key him over #1 Belliqueux (5-2) in a small exacta.
Selections
- #6 Posse Rocks (3-1)
- #1 Belliqueux (5-2)
- #4 War Terminatrix (6-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #6 Posse Rocks
- $5 Exacta: 6 with 1
Total: $25
Assiniboia Downs: Race 2: Osiris S. (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 9:00 p.m. ET)
#2 Mighty Mikee (1-1) has obliterated his first two starts at Assiniboia Downs, leading by daylight at every call to win a maiden special weight by 5 1/2 lengths and the CTHS Sales S. by nine lengths.
Those runaway wins earned Brisnet Speed ratings of 72 and 79, the two highest numbers in the Osiris field. Let’s key Mighty Mikee over #3 Omaha Warrior (4-1) in an exacta, then single him to start a double wager.
Selections
- #2 Mighty Mikee (1-1)
- #3 Omaha Warrior (4-1)
- #2 Tap the Parlay (2-1)
Wagers
- $10 Exacta: 2 with 3
- $25 Double: 2 with 1
Total: $35
Assiniboia Downs: Race 3: J. W. Siftson S. (1 1/8 miles on dirt, 9:25 p.m. ET)
#6 Betterlucknexttime (6-5) is the morning-line favorite after winning multiple stakes at Assiniboia Downs. But he’s done his best work sprinting six furlongs or less, and in a couple of recent one-mile contests he finished behind #1 Princeoftheprairie (9-5).
Princeoftheprairie has improved his Brisnet Speed ratings significantly since stretching out over one mile, so he appears more likely to appreciate 1 1/8 miles than Betterlucknexttime.
Let’s single Princeoftheprairie to conclude our double wager, then bet him over #5 Mr. Splash (4-1) in an exacta.
Selections
- #1 Princeoftheprairie (9-5)
- #5 Mr. Splash (4-1)
- #6 Betterlucknexttime (6-5)
Wagers
- $10 Exacta: 1 with 5

Finger Lakes: Race 4: $17,050 Pick 5 carryover (2:42 p.m. ET)
The highlight of Wednesday’s card at Finger Lakes is a lucrative $17,050 non-jackpot carryover in the 50-cent Late Pick 5.
Planning to play along, but not sure where to begin? We’ve got you covered with a race-by-race analysis of the sequence and an $81 ticket:
Race 4: $5,000 Claiming (one mile on dirt)
This claimer for non-winners of three races looks quite competitive. #2 Turnupthemusic (5-1) has already won at this class level, but remains eligible because she’s only won two races in total. She’s a threat to win again, though class droppers like #1 Teca (3-1) and #8 Red Butterfly (5-1) are worth including too.
Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt)
#10 Happy’s Smile (5-1) and #6 La Gran Artesana (10-1) look like two of the best local runners. But New York Racing Association shipper #11 Miss Im Pulsive (3-1) could be a serious win threat after three straight starts at Saratoga.
Race 6: $5,000 Claiming (six furlongs on dirt)
This field hasn’t come up especially deep. We’ll use the class-dropping duo of #1 Just Words (3-1) and #6 Change Order (8-1) plus last-out $5,000 maiden claiming winner #9 Freedom Dreams (4-1).
Race 7: Allowance (one mile and 70 yards on dirt)
Recent Brisnet Speed ratings suggest #3 Ice Time (3-1) and #7 Berning Beauty (5-2) are a bit faster than their rivals in this two-turn allowance. One or the other should prevail.
Race 8: $5,000 Claiming (six furlongs on dirt)
#3 Chicazteca (4-1) was beaten a nose over this track, distance, and class level on Aug. 12. She’s a logical contender, though #8 Adjustable Rate (3-1) and #1 Moontown (8-1) are formidable challengers while dropping in class.
- 50-cent Pick 5: 1,2,8 with 6,10,11 with 1,6,9 with 3,7 with 1,3,8 ($81)
Good luck!
