Best Bets and Quick Picks

Keeneland: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (4 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 1:00 p.m. ET)

Trainer Wesley Ward dominates these early-season juvenile sprints. He won the first two-year-old race of the spring meet, and he can snag another win with #6 Waggley (7-5), a filly from the first crop of foals sired by Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) and Pegasus World Cup (G1) winner Life Is Good.

Waggley entered a 4 1/2-furlong sprint against males on opening day of the meet, but scratched in favor of this race against fellow fillies. She comes in off fast workouts at Keeneland, including a bullet three furlongs from the starting gate in :35 4/5, and she’s slated to be ridden by Joel Rosario, who has guided many of Ward’s juvenile winners at Keeneland in recent years.

Let’s bet Waggley on top of exacta and trifecta tickets using #7 Smoke (3-1) and #4 Frontline Fury (4-1) for second place.

Selections

  • #6 Waggley (1-1)
  • #7 Smoke (3-1)
  • #4 Frontline Fury (4-1)

Wagers

  • $15 Exacta: 6 with 4,7 ($30)
  • $5 Trifecta: 6 with 4,7 with 4,7 ($10)
    Total: $40

Keeneland: Race 3: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming (about seven furlongs on dirt, 2:04 p.m. ET)

#2 Liam in the Dust (5-1) has spent much of the last two years competing against stakes competition, most notably finishing second in the Pocahontas (G3) and third in the Demoiselle (G2).

Although Liam in the Dust has competed primarily in two-turn races, her two sprint efforts have been solid: she won a seven-furlong maiden special weight at Ellis Park and ran second to future graded stakes winner Muhimma in a seven-furlong $100,000 allowance optional claimer at Churchill Downs.

Cutting back in distance may yield a winning performance from Liam in the Dust in her 2026 debut. Let’s place a win bet on the four-year-old filly, then key her over logical favorite #4 Kapoor (4-5) in an exacta.

Selections

  • #2 Liam in the Dust (5-1)
  • #4 Kapoor (4-5)
  • #1 Sudden Switch (12-1)

Wagers

  • $22 to win on #2 Liam in the Dust
  • $8 Exacta: 2 with 4
    Total: $30

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 4:14 p.m. ET)

This field of Indiana-bred maidens looks unremarkable on paper, so we’ll take a shot betting #11 Mikestrumpcard (8-1), the only horse who has raced this year.

Mikestrumpcard has competed three-times in six-furlong $30,000 and $50,000 maiden claimers at Oaklawn Park. He was soundly beaten in all of them, but may find the competition easier at Horseshoe Indianapolis. Take note, his career-best 60 Brisnet Speed rating is the highest number belonging to any horse entered in Race 5.

Let’s place a win bet on Mikestrumpcard, then play him in the exacta with #10 Socorro’s Prayer (5-2), who finished second over this track, distance, and class level last November.

Selections

  • #11 Mikestrumpcard (8-1)
  • #10 Socorro’s Prayer (5-2)
  • #9 Hard Luck Prayer (6-1)

Wagers

  • $15 to win on #11 Mikestrumpcard
  • $10 Exacta: 10 with 11
  • $5 Exacta: 11 with 10
    Total: $30

Good luck!
