Wednesday Harness Preview for 3/12/2014
by Ted Black
Once again the Wednesday cards at Dover Downs in Delaware and Pompano Park in southern Florida will highlight the trotters and for the first time this winter the two five-eighths mile ovals might also offer comparable temperatures.
Those heading to Dover this evening might have a chance to arrive in shorts, although thunderstorms are expected and could turn the surface sloppy my mid-card. Nevertheless, there are several decent plays on the program and not all of them are trotters.
In the second, a non-winners of two races lifetime event for pacers, look for Pistol Petesdragon to garner his first win of the campaign. Parked the mile while third as the even-money favorite in this class last week, Pistol Petesdragon is winless through his first seven starts of the season but that could very well change this evening and he should be at least 5-1.
In the very next race on the program, the winners over class for trotters, give Kodak Lindy a genuine chance to attain his first win in three starts on the season. A solid second to Pounce Hanover last week, Kodak Lindy will have an immediate chance for redemption and revenge this evening. Both trotters were 9-5 co-favorites last week, but Kodak Lindy should be the higher price this evening in the rematch as Pounce Hanover starts from the second tier.
Then in the fifth, a non-winners of $9001 last six class for trotters, take another shot at Sea Raven. Second in this group at 6-1 last week, Sea Raven looks poised to garner his first in seven starts on the season. Two weeks ago he was in the faster half of the same split condition and should finally get a hint of favorable luck this week.
That same evening at Pompano Park a pair of trotters certainly look worthy of backing. In the featured Open, take another shot at Photo King who has been third in each of his two starts in the top class and was the beaten favorite two weeks ago. Jolenes Pinehonker will be tough to be from his assigned outside slot.
In the fifth, take another swing at Zorgwijk Impact in this non-winners of $4751 last five starts group for trotters. Last week in the same class, Zorgwijk Impact set all the fractions before being nailed late in a very good runner-up try. He will have to work out a decent trip from post eight this evening, but he will also likely get slightly overlooked by the wagering public and could prevail at 6-1.
