Wednesday Harness Preview for 3/5/2014

With Winter Storm Titan having long passed and the alphabetical index of storms set to expire, standardbred owners, trainers and fans can head back to the track this week knowing that spring is, theorhetically at least, just around the corner.

The Wednesday evening cards at Dover Downs and Pompano Park tend to highlight the best trotters at each respective venue and such is the case again this evening. The best trotters who began the season at Dover, Traverse Seelster and Modern Family, have since ventured to ovals slightly north of Delaware.

In the fifth race at Dover, a non-winners of five races lifetime class for trotters, look for Nidaros to finallty garner her first victory of the campaign. The four-year-old daughter of Muscles Yankee is winless from seven starts this season, but she has been second in each of her last two outings and will probably be a more generous price than her 5-2 morning line suggests thanks to getting post seven.

Two races later on the card, a non-winners of $9001 last six class for trotters, give Sea Raven a good chance to prevail. Last week he was in the much faster of this split condition after missing a week and his performance was better than it looks on paper. Sea Raven is winless in five outings this year, but his first two starts were against considerably tougher at Yonkers.

In the very next race on the card, look for Full Of Fame to resume her winning ways in a non-winners of four races lifetime class for pacing fillies and mares. Last week she raced first over into a solid back half and was overhauled by a very good Beat The Beat, but finished second as the 6-5 choice. Despite getting post seven in this event, Full Of Fame looks poised to handle this group.

Then in the ninth, a non-winners of $12,001 last six class for trotters, give Looking Hanover one more chance at redemption. The durable millionaire son of Muscles Yankee has won 30 races in his career and is accustomed to facing much tougher. He has been 3-1 or less in all five of his previous winless outings this year and was 1-2 the last time in this condition, but he should be at least double that price this evening.

Then four races later in the 13th, a winners over $45,000 lifetime class for trotters, look for Pounce Hanover to regain his winning ways for trainer-driver Victor Kirby. After winning three of his first four starts at the meet, including a stellar 1:54 score on Jan. 29, Pounce Hanover threw in two clunkers before rallying to finish second last week in an effort that promises a return to the winner's circle.

At Pompano Park on Wednesday, a trio of trotters - divided only into two races - look like decent plays over the Florida five-eighths mile oval.

In the third, the featured $10,000 Open Trot, give Photo King an immediate chance for redemption. Last week he rallied from off the pace to finish third as the tepid 2-1 favorite in his first start in the top class. He will likely be a much better price this week, especially since the race includes previous Open heroes Andover America, Pure Barre and Jolenes Pinehonker,all of which will start outside of him.

Then two races later in the fifth, a non-winners of $4751 last five starts class for trotters, give both Tug River Dylan and Zorgwik Impact a chance to prevail and perhaps complete the exacta. Last week they competed in a split similar condition, with Tug River Dylan overcoming excess cover to get third in the first division while Zorgwik Impact overcame a first over journey to score in 1:55.4 in his later half.
