Yonkers Card Saturday Night Offered Many Good Efforts
While thoroughbred racing fans may have gotten their fill of graded stakes action earlier, the Saturday night card at Yonkers Raceway was highlighted by a trio of Open events and an undercard featuring several horses headed to that level soon.
Midway through the card Wings Of Royalty befitted from a pocket trip behind odds-on choice Melady's Monet and rallied inside to capture the $45,000 Open Handicap for trotters. A four-year-old Rc Royalty stallion trained by George Ducharme, Wings Of Royalty notched his second straight win over the oval and his fifth win in 14 starts this season.
One race later in the $35,000 4YO Open Handicap, Americanprimetime gained command soon after the start and led throughout while cutting wicked fractions en route to a five-length score in 1:50.1 to equal the all-age track record at the historic hilltop oval.
A four-year-old American Ideal stallion trained by Rick Dane, Jr., Americanprimetime notched his fifth win in 21 starts this year and likely earned a spot in the Open Handicap against the older boys next week.
Speaking of the $45,000 Open Hcp, Melmerby Beach overcame a long, first over bid and outlasted Polak A to score by a neck in 1:51.4. Dream Out Loud N split horses late to gain the show spot from favored Mach It So who had been the runner-up in the $150,000 Bobby Quillen Memorial 12 days earlier.
In the second race on the card, In The Arsenal overcame post eight, a long first over journey and a 54.4 back half to capture a non-winners of $15,000 last five event for older pacers. Another four-year-old American Ideal stallion trained by Kelvin Harrison, In The Arsenal notched his first win in 15 starts this year and will likely head back into the 4YO Open next weekend.

This four-year-old Western Terror stallion has won all three of his starts handily for trainer Thomas Milici and also likely earned a spot in the 4YO Open next weekend.
Then in the finale, a non-winners of $25,000 last five starts class for older pacers, The Real One, a fixture in the Open Hcp where he had been second the week before, gained command before the quarter and led throughout as the 1-4 favorite to score by three lengths over Western Rockstar in 1:52.
