2015 Inaugural TwinSpires Daytona 550 National Championship Event

The 2015 Inaugural TwinSpires Daytona 550 National Championship event is fast approaching us as Saturday, January 24 is right about the corner. This star studded greyhound field is sure to provide plenty of excitement and tons of discussion both before and after the contest is over. It is a talented group of outstanding and talented racers taking to the Daytona Beach track Saturday evening in the 10th race and as many would say, it's too close to call. Here are the post positions and some info on the greyhounds. We will have our picks posted on this race on our Saturday preview for Southland. Post 1 - HUSKER MAGIC - Derby Lane invitee - 68 starts - 43-9-6-1. She was North America's winningest female in 2014. Tons of early speed and a mid-rail running style usually have her on the lead and she's a hard one to catch from behind. Runs for the Haber Kennels.

Post 2 - STORM CONTROL - Palm Beach invitee - 39 starts - 20-5-2-4. A rail runner with early blazing speed and who is running strong at this time. Should be among the leaders right out of the box. In his last 19 races he has 18 top three finishes including 13 wins. Runs for the B&B Kennels.

Post 3 - PENROSE LOBO - Derby Lane invitee - 22 starts - 12-5-3-0. A mid-track runner with a good rush he was added to the field after Kiowa Leer Loyd was scratched. He is the recently ran 2015 Derby Lane Matinee Idol champion. Runs for the Cal Holland Kennel.

Post 4 - MAC'S BONITA - Tri State invitee - 50 starts - 18-10-7-4. She's a mid to mid rail runner who won the 2014 West Virginia GOBA stakes contest. Runs for the McMillion Kennel. Capable of a big effort, could surprise many here.

Post 5 - LEE OPERA - Orange Park invitee - 59 starts - 35-7-2-2.  A mid-to rail runner who won 4 stakes titles in 2014 at Orange Park. She's a definite contender who will be among the favorites. Runs for the Lester Raines Kennel.

Post 6 - JS SPEEDYPEBBLES - Palm Beach invitee - 57 starts - 30-12-3-4. She's got a strong rush to the turn and usually is among the frontrunners most of the time. Gives 110% each time out and will be looking to find some mid-rail running room with a solid break. Added to the field after Pat C Sabbath was scratched.Runs for the Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel.

Post 7 - ATASCOCITA ACT - Gulf invitee - 14 starts - 9-2-1-2. He's a strong closer who will be looking to track down the frontrunners from the backstretch to the wire. He was added to the field after Atascocita Gray was scratched. Runs for the Libby's Racing Kennel.

Post 8 - BOC'S JOHN LUKE - Bluffs Run invitee - 54 starts - 26-13-4-2. He has a mid to mid wide running style and did win the 2014 Bluffs Run Open and the 2014 Bluffs Run Secretary's Choice stakes titles. Runs good from any post position and with his early speed should be able to find running room in which to challenge for the win. Runs for the Boeckenstedt Kennel.
