Betting With, and Against, Margie’s Intention in the DuPont Distaff Stakes

May 14th, 2026

A cast of eight fillies and mares will jaunt nine panels on the main strip at Laurel Park in Friday’s $125,000 Allaire DuPont Distaff S. The 2025 Black-Eyed Susan (G2) queen #2 Margie’s Intention (1-1) is the class of the field and has been installed as the heavy morning-line favorite for the event.

Margie’s Intention – With

Margie’s Intention – Against

  • $3 trifecta 6,7 with 1,2,6,7 with 1,2,6,7 ($36)

Conditioned by Brad Cox, the Honor A. P. four-year-old had a strong sophomore campaign when compiling an 8-3-3-2 mark throughout the season, led by her win at Pimlico and also included placings in the Alabama (G1), Beldame (G2), and Delaware Oaks (G3). Purchased for $1.3 million in November, the Cajun-bred finished a closing second at Fair Grounds on March 26 in a performance that will have her set up for a big run on Friday while making her local debut. Irad inherits the mount.

Group 3 victress #6 Queen Azteca (5-1) has not been overly consistent since arriving in the U. S., but the four-year-old filly has strung together a pair of good runs in succession since adding blinkers and merits consideration for Brisset. The daughter of Sharp Azetca led at every call in topping allowance foes at Keeneland in her latest endeavor and comes in with a pair of solid half-mile drills in the interim, too. Flaven Prat will have the filly forwardly placed from the opening bell.

#7 Waveless (6-1) will take a major class rise up from the first-level allowance ranks in the affair for Pletcher, but the Gun Runner filly is steadily improving and wouldn’t be a major surprise with another step in the right direction. The chestnut has improved her Brisnet Speed rating in each run since having blinkers added, and she has run well in a pair of 1 1/8-mile tilts in a row, as well. The Repole color bearer has never been better and picks up the red-hot Jose Ortiz for the voyage.

I don’t expect #1 Low Country Magic (12-1) to upset the cast, but the de Paz pupil has faced a few solid fields in the stakes ranks in New York in two tries in 2026, and the daughter of Good Magic could be a key exotics piece at a nice number. The chestnut mare can handle the distance, and she is a winner from a pair of lifetime runs on the oval, as well. Tyler Gaffalione will be in the saddle and having the five-year-old saving ground every step of the way behind a lively early tempo.
