Tiffany, Possiblemente qualify at Kentucky Downs

A pair of Grade 2 stakes at Kentucky Downs worth in excess of $1 million apiece awarded “Win and You’re In” berths to the Breeders’ Cup.

European raiders ran 1-2 in the 1 1/2-mile Kentucky Turf Cup (G2), a steppingstone to the Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1). Tiffany, a six-year-old mare fresh off a win in Germany’s Grosser Preis von Berlin (G1), tracked the pace in third place before kicking away to defeat reigning Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Ethical Diamond by 1 3/4 lengths. She stopped the clock in 2:26.37.

Arlington Million (G1) winner Burnham Square ran below expectations as the 3-2 favorite, finishing seventh.

In the six-furlong Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint (G2), it was Possiblemente who claimed top honors. Winner of the Jacques Cartier (G3) during the spring, Possiblemente dueled for the lead, then forged ahead in the final furlong to triumph by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:09.28.

Possiblemente earned a ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1).

Summer Starlet joins Juvenile Fillies field via Spinaway romp

Summer Starlet, a 6 1/2-length debut winner at Saratoga last month, brought her career record to 2-for-2 with a similarly decisive victory in Saratoga’s seven-furlong Spinaway (G1).

Summer Starlet rated in third place behind dueling leaders, then swooped to the front and drew off to dominate by 4 3/4 lengths in 1:22.72. In the process, she became the first filly to qualify for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).

Dragon Welds, Diktaean nab Korean qualifiers

For the second straight year, Diktaean won the 1,800-meter (about 1 1/8-mile) Korea Cup (G2) at Seoul Racecourse in South Korea, one of two Breeders’ Cup qualifiers the track hosted on Sunday.

Diktaean launched a last-to-first rally to dominate by six lengths in 1:51.7. He earned a ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1).

The other major prize was the Korea Sprint (G3), a 1,200-meter (about six-furlong) steppingstone to the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). Dragon Welds was always forwardly placed, and he chased down the 2025 Breeders’ Cup Sprint fourth-place finisher, American Stage, to score by two lengths in 1:10.7.

Woodbine Mile leads quartet of Grade 1s in Canada

Four Grade 1 races at Woodbine this Saturday will award Win and You’re In berths to the Breeders’ Cup.

The agenda includes:

• The Woodbine Mile (G1), a steppingstone to the Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1). Reigning Woodbine Mile and Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Notable Speech is expected to face off against multiple Grade 1 winner Deterministic.
• The E.P. Taylor (G1), a 1 1/4-mile prep for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G1).
• The Summer (G1), in which two-year-olds will race one mile in search of a Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) ticket.
• The Natalma (G1), a one-mile qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).

Five qualifiers on the weekend agenda in Ireland

Ireland is also hosting a bevy of Breeders’ Cup qualifiers this weekend.

Two Breeders’ Cup berths will be awarded at Leopardstown on Saturday:

• The 1 1/4-mile Irish Champion (G1) will hand out a ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Turf. Constitution River, winner of the Prix du Jockey Club (G1) and Eclipse (G1), is favored in the early betting over Item, who beat Constitution River in last month’s Juddmonte International (G1).
• A Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf berth is up for grabs in the one-mile Matron (G1). Blue Bolt, whose 4-for-4 record this year includes wins in the Prix Rothschild (G1) and Falmouth (G1), is shaping up as a heavy favorite.

The following day, the Curragh will host three Breeders’ Cup qualifiers:

• The five-furlong Flying Five (G1) serves as a steppingstone to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Comanche Brave, last seen winning the July Cup (G1), could start as the favorite. Starlust, winner of the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, is another possible starter.
• Potential Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf contenders will face off in the seven-furlong Moyglare Stud (G1). Sun Goddess, who beat males in the Phoenix (G1), is the early favorite.
• The seven-furlong Vincent O’Brien National (G1) awards an entry into the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. The early favorites in the betting are Vintage (G2) winner Dr Rascal and Futurity (G2) conqueror Giant Sequoia.

Book’em Danno will miss Sprint

Author, writer, and podcaster Paul Halloran reported on X.com that reigning champion male sprinter Book’em Danno will skip the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

Book’em Danno scratched from last month’s Forego (G1) at Saratoga after becoming cast in his stall, which left him slightly off while jogging. He won’t be ready in time to contest a prep race prior to the Breeders’ Cup, so the Feb. 2 Riyadh Dirt Sprint (G2) in Saudi Arabia will instead serve as Book’em Danno’s next long-term goal.
