Cyrus Alexander prevails on class drop in Lone Star Park 'Cap

Unplaced in four prior stakes attempts in Southern California, Cyrus Alexander found the switch to Texas agreeable on Memorial Day with a 2 1/2-length victory in the $200,000 Lone Star Park H. (G3).

With Martin Garcia in the irons, Cyrus Alexander rated in third as Supermason sped through an opening half in :45.90 and six furlongs in 1:10.24, made a three-wide bid around the far turn alongside 7-5 favorite Shotgun Kowboy, and then put that rival away to post his first added-money win in a time of 1:43.12 for 1 1/16 miles on a fast track.

Owned by Spendthrift Farm and Stonestreet Stables, in whose silks Garcia wore, Cyrus Alexander paid $6 as the 2-1 second choice. Finishing second to the Jerry Hollendorfer trainee was Shotgun Kowboy, who was two lengths ahead of Rocket Time in the field of seven.

Cyrus Alexander captured two of his first seven outings before running fourth in the 2015 Affirmed (G3) at Santa Anita. Winning one of his following three allowance attempts, the four-year-old by Medaglia d'Oro entered this test after running sixth in the San Antonio (G2), eighth in the Santa Anita H. (G1), and fourth in the Santana Mile.

The Lone Star Park was Cyrus Alexander's first start without blinkers since his maiden days.

Cyrus Alexander is a half-brother to Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Super Saver and Grade 3 winner Brethren, all being out of the A.P. Indy mare Supercharger. His fourth dam, champion Numbered Account, reared top sire Private Account and Grade 1 winner Dance Number, herself the dam of juvenile champion Rhythm.

Other heavyweights from this female family are Grade 1 winners Imagining, Bluegrass Cat, Got Lucky, Girolamo, Callback, and Frost Giant. Noted sires Mutakddim and Not for Love also trace back to this line.
