In the 82 years since the Palm Beach Kennel Club opened in 1932, no greyhound has ever been faster on the 3/8ths Mile.

Ethel Is Here (Trent Lee - J’s Alyssa) from owner Jerry Simons and running for the Janie Carroll Kennel broke the 660 yard track record by blazing a 37.28 second victory in Tuesday’s finale 15th Race. The previous record was 37.29 secs by Kenney’s Secret in 1990 and Atascocita Carla in 2008.

What makes this record even more amazing is this was Ethel’s only 13th official start in the middle distance ever at Palm Beach.

Trainer Crystal Carroll could hardly contain her excitement posting on Facebook:

“I’m like a kid on Christmas morning right now! This is a fantastic young dog that is just figuring things out. Lots more to come. Ethel Is Here!”

What’s next for the new track record holder? With the $50,000 James W. Paul Derby coming up in February, Ethel Is Here just made herself the favorite to take home the top prize. I would have never thought that any greyhound here could go under 37 seconds at this distance, but this hot shot rookie might just have a say in the future about that.

Congratulations to Ethel Is Here and her team on this amazing achievement!
