Exotics Plays for the 2026 William Walker Stakes

Outfielder wins at Churchill Downs (Coady Media)
A very good cast of eight turf dashers will speed 5 1/2 furlongs over the lawn at Churchill Downs in Saturday’s $225,000 William Walker S. The Wesley Ward-trained #8 Outfielder (8-5) was a stylish winner in the Animal Kingdom S. at Turfway Park in his 2026 debut and got a fine draw on the outside of the field for his second run off the break. The high-quality son of Speightstown, who was an $850,000 yearling purchase, was a dominant winner in his debut run on this course as a juvenile, which preceded a good fourth in the Prix Morny (G1) at Deauville in August.
William Walker Stakes Exotic Wagers
- $10 exacta 8 with 1,2 ($20)
- $3 trifecta key 8 with 1,2,3 ($18)
- $1 trifecta 1,2,3 with 8 with all ($9)
- $.20-cent superfecta 8 with 1,2,3 with 1,2,3 with all ($6)
The Kentucky-bred bay faded in the lane after leading early in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) in his two-year-old finale and wisely cut back to a sprint to kick off his sophomore campaign. He possesses huge speed from the gate and will benefit from having the other pace in the race to his inside throughout the heat. John Velazquez, who is three-for-three atop the colt, has the assignment.
Outfielder is now a winner on both turf and dirt! He gets back into the winner's circle in R3 at @keeneland. 🤩

#2 Throckmorton (3-1) did everything right but come out on top in the deep Palisades S. at Keeneland in his latest endeavor for conditioner Jose D’Angelo. The Caracaro three-year-old tracked a strong early pace before leading through the stretch in that performance, ultimately falling just short while finishing more than four lengths clear of his nearest foe. The Kentucky-bred bay is not the headstrong runner that he was earlier in his career, but the win threat has plenty of early foot to stay in close range of the pace, nonetheless. Purchased for $250,000 as a two-year-old, the sophomore will have Brian Hernandez, Jr. in the stirrups.
#1 Reb Five (4-1) has three wins and a second in his last four sprint outings, led by a visually impressive score in the Palisades S. for Mark Casse. By Vekoma, the colt has shown good improvement with each run of the season and will likely be moving best of all in the stretch on Saturday. The chestnut is well drawn on the fence to save early ground and will have the red-hot Jose Ortiz in the silks.
#3 Twilight Delight (8-1) displayed a lot of talent as a juvenile and could fly under the radar while making his seasonal bow. The Twirling Candy colt beat a real good one at first asking, and he closed his 2025 campaign with a nice third behind a pair of good ones in the Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita on Oct. 4. The Daniel Leitch trainee might need one off the bench in order to peak, but he has been working steadily leading up to his return and figures to be of good value for the verticals beneath Ben Curtis.
