Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/22/2014

May 22nd, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

This evening's schedule finds several good wagering opportunities thru out the card and I have included those in the picks for tonight. There are some very competitive contests on the program and several very talented greyhounds in line to pick up a win and help pay a good price while doing so on with the show. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 4 - Grade A - 583 yards - After giving it a great shot in the 660 distance stakes racing , the (2) Dexter Ambigram is back to the shorter course and I believe the experience he gained in those races helps him handle this tough field. He gives 110% each time out and will be key here. The (1) Arkans Max likes the rail and will be vying for the front right from the start and can't be overlooked. Also going early is the always tough (3) FF Code Red who has a win and a third place finish in his last three races. The (4) Chillin is running hard lately and is coming off an impressive seven and a half length win so I'll use him to finish out the tri and super plays.

Picks: 2 - 1 - 3 -  4

Race 15 - Grade B - 660 yards - Going with the (5) Distant Days here as the one to beat. This greyhound has encountered a ton of trouble lately yet still has been able to come back for a couple of nice third place finishes so look for him to be coming very strong down the stretch. The (8) Under The Stars seems to be running much better lately and she may hit the lid for the early lead here. Also I'm using the (1) Quirky Boris off his last race where he held the lead in stretch only to lose at the wire. The (7) Lucky Dog is going for three wins in a row so I'll use him to complete my ticket.

Picks: 5 - 8 - 1 - 7

Race 16 - Grade TB - 820 yards - Here we have the always exciting super marathon contest and the key here is the (6) WW's Death Tax. She likes it mid-track and with the drop in grade and strong closing ability should be able to catch the leaders in the stretch. The (3) Kiowa Tree Red is going for her third win in her last six races and almost won last time as she was running second until being bumped on the far turn. The (2) RC Holdingspride likes the inside and has been trying hard lately as he has two second place finishes and a third in his last four races. I'll use the early speed (4) Miss Prissy in case she clears early for tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 6 - 3 - 2 - 4

Race 18 - Grade AA - 660 yards - I'm going with the (2) Atascocita Hamby to be the key here as he is going to be out fast and is more than capable of holding on to the lead. The (8) Flying Warmaiden also has early speed and these two should have one heck of a battle right out of the box. She likes it wide and has some late speed as well. Coming off a nice win last time is the (7) Gusta Of Ruckus and I'll use her as she likes it mid-track and has three wins in her last five races. Finishing the play, I will take the rail running (1) Pescadojourney.

Picks: 2 - 8 - 7 - 1

The Moneymaker play tonight is in the very 1st race, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and is the (3) E Ore. He has been having way too much trouble getting by the first turn lately but I'm willing to give him a play. Even with having the early problems, he has demonstrated a strong closing ability so at the odds he will probably have here, I'm giving him a shot to be the surprise of the night.
