Greyhound Preview: Southland for 8/11/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
There are 18 exciting races on tap for Monday's card at Southland and there are several of them that stand out as good wagering opportunities. I have these races picked below and I'm hoping to be able to put some money in our pockets with some solid plays. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yards - I'm going with the (7) KL's Alex as the key in this one as he is coming off a nice schooling win last time out and has both a nice rush and a late closing run. The (2) CJB Reagan is familiar with the inside post as this is the fourth time in five schooling and official races that he has had the two box. I look for him to avoid trouble and find some running room to show what he's got. The (8) Oshkosh Addison won both his schooling races and could get to the rail for his inside running style with a good break. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays I'll use the (6) RP Big Red who has six top four efforts in his nine starts.
Pick 7-2-8-6
Race 7 - Grade A - 583 yards - The one to beat here is the (4) Atascocita Gray who is going for his 30th win in his last 62 races. He is also the recent 2014 Southland Derby champion. The (6) CBJ Twix likes it mid-track and has a strong rush to the turn and should be going paw to paw with Atascocita Gray right from the start. These two should battle for the win all the way to the wire. The (1) Blazin likes the inside and does have a win from the one box the last time he had it so if there is any early trouble he could be the one to benefit. I won't overlook the (7) Slatex Habanero but he will need a good break and a clean trip to make a challenge.
Pick 4-6-1-7
Race 8 - Grade C - 583 yards - I like the (9) Dark N Demure as the key here as she has been very impressive in her young career with two big wins already in four races, one by 10 lengths and one by 14 lengths. She has yet to be caught once she gets the lead so I'm going with her as the one to beat. The (1) Arkans Duchess likes the rail, has three top four finishes in five starts including two wins and last time she had the one box, she won. The (5) Polish WIlson is dropping in grade and I look for him to avoid early trouble and be in position to challenge for the lead right out of the box. Completing the ticket, I'll use the (6) Bella Atlas, another greyhound dropping in grade and he does have a big rush so I can't overlook him here.
Pick 9-1-5-6
Race 18 - Grade AA - 820 yards - Here we have the always entertaining and exciting super marathon race and the key is the (4) RC Holdingspride. This hard running greyhound has a streak of 16 top four finishes going which include five wins and six second place efforts. His consistency is remarkable and therefore must have him as the one to beat. The (7) Flying Smoky should be out fast and challenging for the early lead, I am overlooking his last two races as he had trouble in both of them and I think he gets a clean trip here. I'll complete the play using the (8) GS Anthony and the (1) Flying Uzi as both are very capable of catching the leaders from behind if there is trouble among them.
Pick 4-7-8-1
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 6th race, a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (1) Fast N Loud. She's a young greyhound who has been giving 110% in each race and who has quickly moved up in grade since winning a maiden race two months ago. She has 8 top three finishes in her young career of 13 races including 4 wins including a 7 length win just a couple weeks ago from the same one box she has this evening. The competition is always tough in grade A but she already has two third place efforts in this class so she's worth a play.
