How to bet Gulfstream's $76,479 Rainbow Pick 6 carryover on Pegasus day

Need a reason to get your bets down on Pegasus World Cup day at Gulfstream Park? If seven graded stakes worth a combined $4.725 million aren’t reason enough, there’s also an enticing $76,479 carryover in the Rainbow Pick 6 pool.

You won’t find a classier Pick 6 sequence anywhere in the country this weekend. The Saturday sequence runs from Race 7 through Race 12 and is comprised exclusively of graded stakes races.

Race 7: Marshua’s River (G3, 1 mile on turf)

There are plenty of viable win contenders among the 10 fillies and mares entered in this 1-mile turf test. Tropical Park Oaks winner #4 Vigilantes Ways (7-2) is a slim favorite, but it’s tough to separate any of these from the pack. Rather than split hairs, we’ll hit the “ALL” button and hope to catch a longshot winner.

Race 8: La Prevoyante (G3, 1 1/2 miles on turf)

#1 Always Shopping (3-1) dominated the 1 3/16-mile Via Borghese S. over this course last month, displaying a sharp stretch kick after tracking a slow pace. She can win right back for hot jockey/trainer duo Irad Ortiz and Todd Pletcher, though the newcomer #7 Heavenly Curlin (9-2) also warrants inclusion while switching to grass off a decisive victory in the 1 1/4-mile Maple Leaf (G3) on Tapeta.

Race 9: Inside Information (G2, 7 furlongs)

#2 Cinnabunny (3-1) didn’t have the best trip when rallying from last place to finish third in the 6-furlong Sugar Swirl (G3), beaten less than a length. Normally a pure front-runner, Cinnabunny can rebound if she returns to her preferred running style while stretching out over 7 furlongs.

Still, the Inside Information is a tough spot, so we’ll also include the improving #4 Thissmytime (7-2) and the multiple Grade 1-placed veteran #5 Piedi Bianchi (12-1).

Race 10: W. L. McKnight (G3, 1 1/2 miles on turf)

I’m keen to support #7 Tide of the Sea (10-1), who wired a 1 1/2-mile allowance race at Keeneland two starts back. The son of English Channel is bred to thrive over this distance and may shake loose on an easy lead at Gulfstream, setting the stage for an upset victory.

We’ll back up Tide of the Sea with #1 Doswell (7-2), recent runner-up in the 1 1/8-mile Ft. Lauderdale (G2); and #6 Sir Sahib (6-1), who endured troubled trips when finishing second in the Northern Dancer (G1) and Singspiel (G3) last season.

Race 11: Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1, 1 3/16 miles on turf)

We’ll take a stand with recent Tropical Park Derby winner #5 Colonel Liam (7-2), who has shown strong finishing speed in all three of his turf starts. He was unlucky to lose the Saratoga Derby last summer, rallying after a rough trip to finish less than a length behind future Grade 1 winners Domestic Spending and Gufo.

Race 12: Pegasus World Cup (G1, 1 1/8 miles on dirt)

#4 Knicks Go (5-2) has been unstoppable since transferring to the care of trainer Brad Cox, most recently dominating the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) with a powerful 109 Brisnet Speed rating. A speedy front-runner, Knicks Go is training sharply and should prove difficult (or impossible?) to catch.
