Ln Michaels Still Perfect
The third round of the 2017 $50,000 James J Patton Silver Cup is in the books and one greyhound has yet to surrender the lead or a win in qualifying. Ln Michaels from the Double J Kennel has won back to back to back races in the stakes and has officially thrown his hat in the mix as the one to beat in this championship. Breaking close, and outrushing the rest to the lead once again, Ln Michaels took quick command of the 11th race on the card and gave a determined run on the front end to last for the slim win at the wire. He was not along at all during this race, but even though the stalkers were knocking on the door, none of them could kick it open before the finish line. Several tried, as the 2nd through 5th place finishers were all within a length and a half at the wire, but none could take down the point leader before the finish line. Kudos to upstart Js Armdndangerus for winning the photo and taking home the place spot after a tireless pace chasing effort. Early speeder Ww’s Lost girl managed to finished 3rd ahead of the fast closing threat Ww Next Bigthing.
Other winners on the card in the quarterfinals included former puppy stakes winner Pullanallnighter and Boc’s Queen Lady from Jim Blanchard, and Ww’s Marsala from the Wayne Ward kennel.
Breaking straight to the lead from a great rail post, Pullanallnighter looked like she did when she dominated the puppy stakes a while back. Once in front she took full advantage of the slight trouble behind her and raced the rabbit off of the rest of the field. She increased her margin throughout and crossed 2.5 lengths better than the rest in the quickest trip of the night, 30.44 seconds. Second almost all the way was Kc’s Todd as Kiowa Pinot Noir rounded out the trifecta. Track Record holder Kmz Kraken ran her usual late rally race to secure the final spot in the money at the wire.
Boc’s Queen Lady followed in the 7th race as she too took advantage of what was given to her late. Ww Quick Brady jumped out quickly again and took the early lead heading to the turn. He was followed closely down the backside by the chasers Boc’s Queen Lady, Lee Raven, and Pat C Outbounds, but by the far turn he had seen his lead dwindle away into almost nothing. Turning for home, he was still in front, but it was not going to end pretty for the early leader. Swinging wide late, like he always does, he left the rail wide open for the Queen and she romped down the red carpet to steal away the win from the clutches of defeat. Poor Lee Raven and Pat C Outbounds got stuck trying to pass outside and that would prove to hinder their chances at scoring a win in this effort. Lady breezed home to a 3-length win at the wire followed by Lee Raven in place, Outbounds in show, and Early leader Ww’s Quick Brady in fourth.
Ww’s Marsala is getting better with age and is showcasing all her talents in the qualifying rounds of the James J Patton Silver Cup. In this match-up she took it to the leader late to secure the win at the wire in the 9th race on the card. Breaking extremely well, and taking a huge lead early on, was the cagey veteran Boc’s Andross. By the turn Andross had 4 lengths on the rest of the field and it appeared that it was O-V-E-R, but Marsala must have missed the memo. Putting her head down and running with reckless abandon, she gaining with every step she took and narrowed the margin to just 2 lengths by the far turn. Down the stretch, they went and that is when Marsala POURED on the power. Digging in deep she surged in her final stride to denied Andross at the finish line by a neck in a speedy 30.45 clocking. Andross ran a winning effort but had to settle for place on this occasion. Third was the steady chasing Pat C Cozy, and Boc’s All I Got closed some throughout to finish off the superfecta.
