Did you catch a share of the mandatory Rainbow Pick 6 payout on Saturday at Santa Anita? Winning bettors split a final pool of $5,134,496, with each successful 20-cent ticket returning $2,014.44.
If your ticket came up short, never fear—you’ll get another chance to chase a big payday when Gulfstream Park disperses an $873,676 Rainbow 6 jackpot on Sunday. A very competitive sequence with 1,921,920 possible outcomes is on the agenda, and the final pool is projected to exceed $6 million.
Need help planning your tickets? Let’s highlight a handful of horses to favor (or oppose) across the six races:
Best Single
Race 7: #7 Free to Fly (1-1)
Free to Fly has been on fire for trainer Kent Sweezey, winning back-to-back $12,500 claiming sprints with strong Brisnet Speed ratings of 91 and 88. A versatile mare capable of winning from almost anywhere in the pack, Free to Fly will be tough to catch while descending to the $6,250 level, especially when you consider how Sweezey (normally a 14% winner) strikes at a 28% rate with horses dropping down two or more class levels.
Vulnerable Favorites
Race 9: #5 Tiz Possible Dear (5-2)
Millions Distaff S. winner Tiz Possible Dear is a class standout while dropping into a $12,500 allowance optional claiming race for Florida-breds. But the six-year-old veteran has misfired in her last two runs, most recently fading to finish last by a wide margin in an open $12,500 allowance optional claiming race.
Tiz Possible Dear will need a big rebound to turn things around on Sunday, so she might be vulnerable to an up-and-comer like #7 My Ashleigh (9-2), who romped by 3 1/2 lengths in an open maiden special weight last month. Hot trainer Michael Yates strikes at a lofty 26% rate with last-out maiden winners, stamping My Ashleigh as a logical alternative to the favorite.
Race 10: #3 Zanno (3-1)
Assuming this five-furlong sprint remains on the turf, Zanno looms as the morning line favorite after returning from a layoff to win a $16,000 allowance optional claiming race for Florida-breds at Gulfstream. He’ll stick to the same course and distance on Sunday, but he’s also stepping up against open $25,000 allowance optional claiming company, where he’s far from a standout in terms of Brisnet Speed ratings.
Indeed, many of Zanno’s rivals have run faster races, including the stakes-placed duo of #9 Lontano (7-2) and #10 Big Drink of Water (9-2). The latter romped in a $35,000 claiming race over this course and distance two starts back, and he’s eligible to fire a big effort in his first start for trainer Carlos David, who wins at a 37% rate with new claiming acquisitions.
Good luck!
