Reliable singles and vulnerable favorites in Rainbow 6 carryovers at Gulfstream and Santa Anita

Two jackpot Pick 6 carryovers are steadily accumulating at opposite ends of the country.

At Gulfstream Park in Florida, the Rainbow 6 carryover has climbed to $616,967 for Sunday’s card. Meanwhile, in California, Santa Anita’s Rainbow 6 jackpot for the same afternoon has reached $273,831.

Let’s dive in and review vulnerable favorites and potential singles in both sequences:

Gulfstream Park

Vulnerable favorite: Race 10, #2 Unaquoi (7-5)

Although Unaquoi is fast enough to win this $25,000 allowance optional claiming sprint on her best day, she’s taken a step backward from a Brisnet Speed rating perspective this season. The seven-year-old mare is wheeling back on just two weeks of rest, and it’s unclear if she’ll rebound sufficiently to challenge in her third start for trainer Mike Maker. Given the questions facing Unaquoi, 7-5 seems like a short price to accept.

Best single: Race 7, #3 My Happy Girl (9-2)

My Happy Girl isn’t the favorite, but she’s certainly kept the toughest company. Formerly based in Southern California with Bob Baffert, the daughter of American Pharoah cracked the trifecta in three of her first four starts while competing against future graded stakes stars Harvest Moon (Grade 2 winner), Merneith (Grade 2 winner), and As Time Goes By (Grade 1 placed).

My Happy Girl misfired in her turf debut racing 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream, but she figures to rebound while cutting back in distance and returning to dirt in her first start for high-percentage trainer Brad Cox. If My Happy Girl runs back to her California form, she’ll be formidable at a fair price.

Santa Anita

Vulnerable favorite: Race 5, #4 Equilove (6-5)

Equilove is the clear morning line choice after placing in four of her five starts in Ireland, but there’s no guarantee she’ll fire a winning effort in her U.S. debut. The daughter of Equiano has done her best work over one mile and hasn’t run since September, so sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs off the layoff is a question mark.

Best single: Race 5, #3 Lady Macarena (5-2)

If you’re willing to oppose Equilove, then Lady Macarena looms as a logical single. The daughter of Uncle Mo fired a big shot in her Feb. 7 debut sprinting six furlongs at Santa Anita, tracking the pace before settling for second with an 85 Brisnet Speed rating that tops Sunday’s field. Considering trainer Michael McCarthy wins at a 23% rate with second-time starters (as opposed to a 3% rate with debut runners since 2019), Lady Macarena has the potential to take a big step forward and win for fun under hot jockey Umberto Rispoli.
