SOUTHLAND Preview - Friday, February 6
Welcome to another evening of exciting and entertaining greyhound racing at Southland Park. On tap we have 18 races for your viewing and wagering pleasure and MoneyMaker Mike has picked out 4 contests that are worth checking out as good solid plays. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 1 - Right off the bat is a Grade A race over the 583 yard course and I'm going with a nice upset pick to start the evening. I like the (3) TC'S MIKE TROUT in this one and with the morning line having him at 15-1, I believe we can cash a nice ticket by using him as the key. He's a young greyhound but has already worked his way up in grade running in both AA and A races over the past month. Competition is tough as both the 1 & 2 dogs have good early speed and the 7 & 8 dogs like it outside but I think he gets a good break and finds running room on the inside around the turn in which to challenge for the front. At these odds, he's worth a play even if it's a small one.
Race 6 - Here we have a Grade M contest over the 660 yard course and the pick here is the (5) TOMMY KNOCKER. He has 5 top four finishes in 6 starts this season and including 3 second place efforts. In two previous starts over this distance he has run second both times beaten by only a length and 1/2 in each one. He has some early speed and a big closing run so I look for him to catch leaders down the stretch.
Race 10 - In this race, a Grade AA contest over the 583 yard course, let's give a shout out to the (7) U TOO PURE SILK for his selection to the 2014 All-American Greyhound team which was just announced this week. He is a repeat All-American having been selected in 2013 as well. Since this is his first race since being named to the 2014 team, I like him to show his stuff and hit the lid early and find room for his mid-track running style. He's been on a hot streak lately winning 4 of his last 6 races so I will play him first and second in the tri's with the 1/4/5/6.
Race 13 - Here is the MoneyMaker pick of the evening, it's a Grade AA contest over the 660 yard course and I like the (6) OSHKOSH FANTASIA to surprise the field with a big run here. Just a couple weeks ago she won 3 straight races in this grade and at this distance so she's worth a shot here. She's a mid to wide runner and has good early speed and I will play her in quinielas and tri's with the 1/2/7/8.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
