SOUTHLAND Preview - Wednesday twilight, February 25

February 24th, 2015

Wednesday's greyhound racing program at Southland looks very interesting with some solid runners going to post and I've selected several races and listed them below that I consider to be good plays for the card. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 1 - To get things started early, in this Grade A first race over the 583 yard course I'm going to go with the (1) FLYING WELSH as the one to beat. She likes the rail and is coming off a an A grade race where she went to the front by three lengths but was caught down the stretch while losing by a nose. In her last four races in this grade she does have 3 second place finishes so I will go with her to hit the lid here and get a big enough lead to hold on for the win. I will play the (1) with the 2/3/5 in quiniela's and will play the 1-all-8-all, 1-all-all-8, all-1-8-all & all-1-all-8 in the dime superfecta.

Race 2 - Here is a Grade B contest over the 583 yard course and I'm going with the (2) FLY AQIB TALIB as the key. He ran a big race last time after dropping in class by taking a 5 length lead before he was caught at the wire to finish a very close second. With the 3 and the 4 both who have a mid to wide running style, the (2) may find running room early, especially if he has a good break which I think he will. I'll play him in quinielas with the 4/6/7 and on top in the dime superfecta with all.

Race 5 - Here is a Grade M race over the 583 course and I like the (3) PJ HIGHWAY as the key. This young pup has only 12 starts in his short career but does have 8 top four finishes including 6 second place efforts. She's got good early speed and seems to always be challenging down the stretch. With her rail running style and a clean break here, I think she's got enough in the tank to be in the chase at the end. I will play the (3) with the 4/6/7 in the quinielas and will add the 1 to the third line in my trifecta plays. 3 with 467 with 1467, 467 with 3 with 1467.

Race 9 - The MoneyMaker pick of the evening is in the Grade TC contest over the 703 yard distance course and the choice is the (2) PJ CONJURE. She likes the rail and in 3 of her last 4 races over this distance where's she started from the one or two box, she's got a win, a second and a third place finish to show for it. This is a competitive field but I still like her chances to be in the chase down the stretch. I will play the (2) with the 1/4/6 mostly in quinielas but I will also play a dime superfecta for $12 which will be the 2-all-8-all, 2-all-all-8, all-2-8-all & all-2-all-8.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
