Peter Pan Stakes Contenders

#1 TRENDSETTER: Lexington (G3) winner is three-for-four lifetime on the dirt and rates a big chance with a repeat of his latest performance. The Modernist gelding handled the 1 1/16 miles last time with ease and looks likely to endure the move to nine panels from the rail in his local debut. Kazushi Kimura will retain the ride.

#2 AZAM: McKinzie colt was a smart maiden winner in his first route try last time and will make his stakes debut on Saturday. The Jose D’Angelo charge is bred to run long and could make the frame with expected improvement beneath Jose Lezcano.

#3 GROWTH EQUITY: Chad Brown pupil was a powerful and popular winner on the oval in March and will make his stakes bow with Flavien Prat signed on. The well-bred son of Nyquist has been first or second in each lifetime try to date, and the colt looked good in his initial route try most recently to hint that the 1 1/8-mile trip will be within his scope. He wouldn’t be a surprise.

#4 BULL BY THE HORNS: Rushaway S. victor from the barn of Saffie Joseph was sharp on the Tapeta at Turfway Park most recently and will be an off-the-pace presence in the cast in his second graded tilt. The son of Essential Quality comes in fresh with some nice morning drills, and the Kentucky-bred will have Micah Husbands in the stirrups.

#5 TALK TO ME JIMMY: New York-bred son of Modernist won the Withers S. by 11 lengths on the course at the distance two back and could be the one to catch in this spot. The Rudy Rodriguez trainee was dueled into submission in the Wood Memorial (G2) on the surface in his latest attempt, but the colt faces a much more reasonable group this time around. Manny Franco will ride the top pick.

#6 GULFY: Constitution colt has won two races in a row, led by a game allowance win in his first run after being claimed by Gustavo Rodriguez. The well-bred colt, who was a $500,000 yearling purchase, has improving Brisnet Speed ratings and could be a factor with another step forward beneath Kendrick Carmouche.
