The TwinSpires Jury of Ashley Anderson, Darin Zoccali, and Kyle Hampton declare their best bets for the Perryville (G3), Raven Run (G2), and Dowager (G3) over the weekend at Keeneland.
The seven-furlong Perryville drew six three-year-olds, highlighted by 6-5 morning-line favorite Captain Cook, who most recently came home a nose second to Patch Adams in the seven-furlong H. Allen Jerkens (G1) at Saratoga. The Todd Pletcher trainee will make his second start since transferring to the Hall of Fame trainer's barn and will pick up the services of Keeneland's leading rider Irad Ortiz Jr.
Later on the card, the Grade 2 Raven Run will see three-year-old fillies contest the same seven-furlong distance. Godolphin homebred Ragtime will look to score her second graded stakes victory following her dominant performance in the seven-furlong Dogwood (G3) at Churchill Downs on Sept. 20. Other contenders in the overflow field include Bob Baffert pupil Usha, a 5 1/4-length allowance winner last out at Del Mar, and Kentucky Oaks (G1) alumnae Simply Joking and Quietside.
On Sunday, Keeneland will also host the 1 1/2-mile Dowager (G3) for fillies and mares. Nine entered the turf event, including graded stakes winner Duvet Day and a trio from Brendan Walsh's barn — Spanish Eyes, Venencia, and Bless My Stars, previously under the care of Todd Pletcher.
Ragtime comes from off the pace to win the G3 Dogwood for trainer Bill Mott with @juniorandkellya aboard! 🌟
