#1 Red Flag broke his maiden in a turf sprint at Santa Anita two starts back then romped by over seven lengths in the Bob Hope (G3) last out going 7 furlongs. He was able to stalk early and take over late, and those tactics should come in handy for his two-turn debut from the rail with Victor Espinoza.

#2 Petruchio improved some when he stretched out to two turns on the turf with blinkers added then came back and broke his maiden on the lawn. Gelded son of Into Mischief goes back to the dirt for Dick Mandella, who is following the same pattern that he did for Omaha Beach.

Son of new sire Hit it a Bomb, the gelding is out of a stakes-placed dam that has produced four winners from five foals to race.

#5 Positivity, a Cal-bred colt, won first time out going 4 1/2 furlongs then came back to win a restricted stakes race at Del Mar. He switched barns to Paddy Gallagher last out and just missed in a $150K stakes race going 7 furlongs. Son of Paynter is out of a dam by City Zip that should have more than enough pedigree to handle two turns.

#6 Spielberg ran second in his well-bet career debut at Del Mar going 6 furlongs, and it was good enough for trainer Bob Baffert to try him in the Del Mar Futurity (G1). He was an even second that day but still good enough for Baffert to put him in the two-turn American Pharoah (G1), where the colt wound up an even third as the 11-10 favorite. The son of Union Rags, who cost $1 million as a yearling, regrouped and broke his maiden next out, but came back and faded in the Bob Hope. Spielberg has burned a lot of money already in a short five-race career and figures to be overbet again.
