When Mr. Disrespectful held on to spring a 36-1 upset in Saturday’s The Chosen Vron S. at Del Mar, he knocked out all remaining live Pick 6 tickets and ensured there would be a $45,175 Pick 6 carryover for Sunday.
Del Mar: Race 4: $45,175 Pick 6 carryover (5:03 p.m. ET)
Sunday’s sequence for the $2 Pick 6 is middle of the road as far as complexity goes. The six races have drawn a combined 48 horses (averaging eight per race), and there are 248,832 possible outcomes to analyze.
The smallest field can be found in Race 6, which drew only six entries. This makes it an ideal place to seek a single, and fortunately, morning-line favorite #5 Himari (6-5) fits the bill as a logical horse to build Pick 6 tickets around.
Best single: Race 6: #5 Himari (6-5)
Race 6 is a $50,000 allowance optional claimer for fillies and mares sprinting six furlongs on dirt. The race looks ripe for conquest by Himari, who has run well in both of her sprint starts for Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.
Himari debuted in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight on Aug. 6 at Del Mar. She led all the way to win by two lengths over a field including Convo, who returned to win her next start at the same track and class level.
Just 23 days after her debut, Himari attempted to stretch out in distance for a one-mile $50,000 allowance optional claimer at Del Mar. She faded after setting the pace to finish fourth, but she rebounded when cutting back to 6 1/2 furlongs for another $50,000 allowance optional claimer on Oct. 9 at Santa Anita. This time, she dueled for command through fractions of :22.11 and :44.86, got passed in the homestretch by a midpack closer, and fought back to finish second by a nose.
Himari’s two sprint efforts have yielded sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 95 and 91, which stack up well against the par winning Brisnet Speed rating for Sunday’s conditions (91). Key rival #3 Artisma (8-5) has lost five times sprinting at this class level and hasn’t raced since March, so Himari appears well-spotted to snag her second win under jockey Juan Hernandez, a 28% winner teaming up with Baffert over the last two months.
Good luck!
