How to bet the 2026 Mighty Beau Stakes at Churchill Downs

June 1st, 2026

Amid the excitement of Belmont Stakes Day, don’t forget to check out the Saturday card at Churchill Downs, which is highlighted by the $225,000 Mighty Beau S.

The five-furlong turf sprint has drawn a competitive 10-horse field. We favor the chances of #2 Troubleshooting.

Mighty Beau wagers

  • $16 to win on #2 Troubleshooting
  • $2 Trifecta: 2 with 5,6,8 with 5,6,8 ($12)
  • $3 Trifecta: 6,8 with 2 with 5,6,8 ($12)
    Total: $40

The Mighty Beau field is absolutely packed with speed. #5 Joe Shiesty is one of the main pace players; he won this race last year after setting fast fractions of :21.56 and :43.98, and he exits a pacesetting runner-up finish in the 5 1/2-furlong Twin Spires Turf Sprint (G2) here at Churchill Downs.

But Joe Shiesty must reckon with several other frontrunners. #3 Sweet Dani Boy has led from start to finish in both of his starts. #4 Doncho has set the pace in each of his last four races. #7 Nothing Better has carved out the pace in five straight sprints. And #9 Schwarzmeier has set the tempo in five of his last eight runs.

All this speed should set the stage for a late-running winner. Troubleshooting fits the bill. He’s shown the stamina to handle longer trips, winning the 6 1/2-furlong Franklin-Simpson (G1) and one-mile Bryan Station (G3) as a three-year-old last year.

Troubleshooting kicked off 2026 on a promising note. He rallied from three lengths back to finish second by a nose in a 5 1/2-furlong grass allowance at Keeneland. With this comeback effort under his belt, Troubleshooting is eligible to move forward in the Mighty Beau, setting the stage for victory.

#8 Works for Me, who beat Troubleshooting in the above-mentioned Keeneland allowance, is back for the Mighty Beau and is another logical contender. He’s a consistent late runner who has cracked the trifecta in eight of his last 10 starts.

Also, don’t underestimate #6 Mondogetsbuckets, who finished ahead of Joe Shiesty when third in the 5 1/2-furlong Shakertown (G2) two starts back.

Last time out, a slow opening quarter-mile fraction compromised Mondogetsbuckets and helped Joe Shiesty in the Twin Spires Turf Sprint, but Mondogetsbuckets nevertheless gained three lengths through the final furlong to finish sixth, beaten only two lengths. A fast pace in the Mighty Beau should help Mondogetsbuckets bounce back.

Good luck!
