Race 2 – Maiden Special Weight
A full field of juvenile males will run 1 1/16 miles on the main oval in the first leg. The event is not especially strong and also lacks a standout, so I must go fairly deep in the opening leg. #1 Outlaw Empire (4-1), #3 Maximus Prime (5-1), #8 Kid Charlemagne (12-1), top pick #10 Project Ace (6-1), and #11 Quarry (8-1) will be on the ticket.
Race 3 – Maiden Special Weight
The six-furlong heat on the main strip attracted a field of 12 two-year-old fillies. The morning-line choice #7 Glam Slam (9-5) has run a pair of good ones to commence her career for John Servis. But, I wouldn’t be confident in making her a single in the sequence. A trio of interesting first-time starters that are bred to be early types will be included with the favorite.
Steve Asmussen’s #4 Private Debbie (6-1), the Hugh Robertson-trained #5 Splendid Song (9-2), and Eddie Kenneally’s #11 Signed With Love (12-1) are the ones.
Race 4 – Allowance
Eight fillies and one mare will go 1 1/16 miles on the dirt in the third piece of the play. The mare, #7 Just the Sky (20-1), could be any kind while trying the dirt for the first time. And leaving Cherie DeVaux runners off of tickets is not always the smartest plan of attack.
#4 Necessity (5-2), recent maiden winner #5 Snowyte (7-2), and Kenny McPeek’s #9 Golden Gamble (9-2), my top choice, will also be used.
Race 5 – Allowance
Grade 1 victor #10 Nobals (3-1) was assigned the outside post in the 5 1/2-furlong turf dash, and I feel that it will be to his benefit. The Larry Rivelli pupil has won just twice in his last 11 starts over the past two seasons, but the six-year-old has plenty of run left in him, evidenced by his narrow miss in the Nearctic S. (G2) at Woodbine most recently. Jareth Loveberry will be on board.
