Best Bets and Quick Picks
Finger Lakes: Race 2: Maiden Special Weight (one mile on dirt, 1:24 p.m. ET)
#4 One Giant Prince (6-1) trailed throughout when debuting in a one-mile maiden special weight for New York-breds at Aqueduct. But he figures to find the competition easier at Finger Lakes, opening the door for a big step forward in his second start.
The addition of blinkers could likewise trigger improvement, so let’s try a win bet on One Giant Prince. We’ll also play him over #1 Reign It In (2-1) in an exacta.
Selections
- #4 One Giant Prince (6-1)
- #1 Reign It In (2-1)
- #7 Shakeitforthebird (7-2)
Wagers
- $22 to win on #4 One Giant Prince
- $8 Exacta: 4 with 1
Total: $30
Finger Lakes: Race 3: $5,000 Maiden Claiming (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 1:53 p.m. ET)
Five of the six horses in this field exit sound defeats in $5,000 maiden claimers at Finger Lakes. #3 Jamaica Redd (7-2) is an exception. He comes off a respectable fifth-place finish in an $11,000 maiden claimer at Finger Lakes, in which he overcame a poor start to finish only 4 1/2 lengths behind the winner.
A clean break while dropping down to the $5,000 level can send Jamaica Redd to the winner’s circle. Let’s bet him to win and play him over #5 Midnight Musume (5-2) in an exacta.
Selections
- #3 Jamaica Redd (7-2)
- #5 Midnight Musume (5-2)
- #4 Pauper King (2-1)
Wagers
- $24 to win on #3 Jamaica Redd
- $6 Exacta: 3 with 5
Total: $30
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (five furlongs on dirt, 2:10 p.m. ET)
Unraced juvenile #3 Chardie (6-1) has a chance to win on debut for trainer Joseph Davis, who compiled a sharp 4-for-17 (24%) record saddling first-time starters at Horseshoe Indianapolis in 2025.
Chardie is a daughter of Instilled Regard, runner-up in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G1) as a juvenile and the sire of 17% winners from first-time starters. Quick workouts at Horseshoe Indianapolis (including a near-bullet half-mile from the starting gate in :47 2/5) suggest Chardie has ability.
At 6-1, a win bet is in order.
Selections
- #3 Chardie (6-1)
- #5 Little Maite (8-1)
- #2 Frosted Mooncake (9-2)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #3 Chardie
Carryover Watch
Mountaineer: Race 8: $1,137 Super High 5 carryover (9:55 p.m. ET)
If you have what it takes to select the top five finishers, in order, in Tuesday’s eighth race at Mountaineer, you can win a share of a $1,137 Super High 5 carryover.
Pulling it off won’t be easy. Race 8 is a $3,200 claimer for horses who haven’t won two races since Dec. 30. The five-furlong dirt dash has drawn 11 horses, including one also-eligible entrant, and you can make a solid case for many of them to finish in the top five.
That said, the following five horses bring particularly strong credentials to the table and should be emphasized when constructing Super High 5 tickets:
#1 Remys Gunsmoke (3-1): Remys Gunsmoke misfired in a recent $12,500 starter allowance for West Virginia-breds, tiring to finish last of five. But two starts back, he wired a $4,000 claimer by 4 1/2 lengths, earning a 75 Brisnet Speed rating equal to the par winning number for Race 8’s conditions. Tackling a $3,200 claimer should put Remys Gunsmoke right in the hunt for hot trainer Gabe Shafer, a 21% winner at Mountaineer this meet.
#3 Christensen (15-1): Christensen ended 2025 with a rallying victory in a $4,000 claimer sprinting at Mountaineer, for which he earned a sharp 78 Brisnet Speed rating. The six-year-old gelding is still relatively untested on dirt (he’s raced over the surface only four times), so he’s eligible to exceed expectations while dropping into a $3,200 claimer for his 2026 debut.
#7 Bazoo (5-1): Bazoo has been facing—and beating—tougher competition. He ended 2025 with a gate-to-wire win in a $4,000 claimer, and he started 2026 by leading essentially all the way to win another $4,000 claimer by a nose. Trainer Eddie Clouston wins at a 50% rate with horses dropping in class off a win, so look for Bazoo to deliver a strong showing in his second start of the season.
#9 Classic Mo (6-1): Classic Mo was a force to reckon with at Thistledown last year, winning a couple of $7,500 claimers for Ohio-breds with Brisnet Speed ratings of 77 and 76. He hasn’t run since August and is 12 years old now, but if he picks up where he left off, Classic Mo can challenge for a strong finish under apprentice jockey Jefferson Skerrett, who rides with a seven-pound weight allowance.
#11 Osprey (5-2): Osprey is the also-eligible entrant, so he’ll need a scratch in order to compete. If he does draw in, watch out. Last month, Osprey trounced a $4,000 claimer at Mountaineer by 2 3/4 lengths, earning his third straight Brisnet Speed rating in the 76-77 range. Jockey Luis Negron and trainer Juan Silva have been a hot team, winning at a 24% rate together over the last two months, and they could snag another win with Osprey.
Good luck!
