Best Bets and Quick Picks
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 1: Maiden Special Weight (five furlongs on dirt, 2:10 p.m. ET)
#2 Summer Dream (7-5) showed talent in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Ellis Park earlier this month. She opened up a daylight lead before tiring in the homestretch to finish third, beaten 3 3/4 lengths.
The 71 Brisnet Speed rating Summer Dream earned is higher than the par winning number (68) for Wednesday’s conditions at Horseshoe Indianapolis. The daughter of Into Mischief appears well-spotted to break her maiden for hot trainer John Ennis, who has gone 5-for-13 (38%) at Horseshoe Indianapolis this meet.
#7 Speech and Drama (3-1), runner-up in a $50,000 maiden claimer at Churchill Downs, can complete the exacta.
Selections
- #2 Summer Dream (7-5)
- #7 Speech and Drama (3-1)
- #6 Tiz Amelia (8-1)
Wagers
- $20 Exacta: 2 with 7
Saratoga: Race 6: Curlin S. (1 1/8 miles on dirt, 4:05 p.m. ET)
#4 Chief Wallabee (4-5) is taking a big step down in class after finishing third in the Florida Derby (G1), fourth in the Kentucky Derby (G1), and fourth in the Belmont (G1). A typical performance from the son of Constitution should yield a short-priced victory in the Curlin, which is restricted to horses who have never won a graded stakes.
Let’s key Chief Wallabee on top of an exacta using #1 Blackout Time (3-1) for second place. Runner-up in the Breeders’ Futurity (G1) last fall, Blackout Time recently bounced back to peak form with a six-length victory in a $125,000 allowance optional claimer at Churchill Downs.
Selections
- #4 Chief Wallabee (4-5)
- #1 Blackout Time (3-1)
- #5 Tiernanogue (12-1)
Wagers
- $25 Exacta: 4 with 1
Presque Isle Downs: Race 3: $12,500 Claiming (one mile and 70 yards on Tapeta, 4:24 p.m. ET)
There isn’t much pace in this field, which should suit #6 Prototype (2-1) just fine. Last time out, he set the pace in a $12,500 claimer racing one mile at Presque Isle before staying on to finish second.
Prototype brings sharp Brisnet Speed ratings to the table and is a logical choice to secure victory for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Israel Rodriguez and Juan Arriagada, who have won at a 32% rate teaming up together over the last two months.
#2 D’oro Lemon (3-1) can round out the exacta.
Selections
- #6 Prototype (2-1)
- #2 D’oro Lemon (3-1)
- #3 Irish Stone (9-2)
Wagers
- $20 Exacta: 6 with 2
Good luck!
