A total of nine two-year-old fillies will run 1 1/16 miles on the Del Mar dirt in Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). I feel as though the ladies based in California have a big edge in the affair, and I will center my wagers around a few of them.
Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Wagers
- $2 Trifecta: 7 with 2,6 with ALL ($28)
- $1 Trifecta: 7 with ALL with 2,6 ($14)
- 10-cent Superfecta: 7 with 2,6 with ALL with ALL ($8.40)

The Bob Baffert-trained #7 Explora (5-2) commenced her career with a popular score on the surface when leading at every call in a 5 1/2-furlong dash while being bet down to minuscule 1-5 odds. Stretching out to seven panels in her second voyage, the $350,000 juvenile purchase was run down late to check in second in the Del Mar Debutante (G1).
The Blame filly was last seen running in the Oak Leaf S. (G2) at Santa Anita without blinkers on, and the equipment change moved the April foal forward. The Kentucky-bred tracked the pace from third early prior to making a sharp move into and through the stretch to pull away by 4 1/4 lengths under the wire. She registered a race-best 97 Brisnet Speed rating in the process and will be tough to deny with Juan Hernandez on board.
Baffert’s #2 Bottle of Rouge (9-2) was a powerful maiden special weight winner on the course in her second assignment and followed that up with a professional tally in the aforementioned Debutante here in her subsequent performance. The Vino Rosso filly is bred to run two turns and has recorded five solid morning drills in the interim, led by a bullet five-eighths on Oct. 19. April foal will be in range to the top of the lane before being asked for her best late with Mike Smith retaining the mount.
#6 La Ville Lumiere (20-1), one of two in the field for Michael McCarthy, finished a solid third in the Oak Leaf in her first route run on the main oval and has top-three appeal to me at a price. The $475,000 daughter of City of Light has shown two swift morning moves as of late, with a bullet five panels on this surface on Saturday. If either of the top pair fails to fire, then I could envision this filly being a dangerous commodity with Kaz Kimura in the stirrups.
I feel that any horse in this field can hit the board, so I will utilize the ‘all’ button in the lower rungs of my vertical plays.
