Royal Ascot and U.S. bettors: Five key factors driving interest
Royal Ascot captures the imagination because of its unique blend of monarchical pageantry, social prestige, high fashion, and the spectacle of top-level Thoroughbred racing.
The premier British festival, slated for June 16-20, 2026, has taken on even greater importance for U.S. racing fans in recent years. Five key factors have aligned to drive interest across the pond:
- American success
- NBC Sports coverage
- Breeders’ Cup Challenge races
- World Pool betting
- Social media
Best Bets for the 2026 Salvator Mile
Read the full analysis here: Tipsheet: 2026 Salvator Mile Stakes
A really good group of nine older males will travel eight panels on the Monmouth Park dirt in Saturday’s $150,000 Salvator Mile (G3), one of four stakes events on the big day of racing. Who is your best bet for the Salvator Mile Stakes?
Salvator Mile Stakes Picks
- #6 Bishops Bay
- #9 East Avenue
- #2 Grande
Salvator Mile Stakes Wagers
Top Horses for the 2026 Salvator Mile Stakes
#6 BISHOPS BAY: Top choice from the Brad Cox barn is a four-time graded winner who dominated this event in 2025. The Uncle Mo six-year-old, who brought $1.3 million in November, was second to a sharp winner in his first run back since returning from the desert at Aqueduct ahead of this, and he will move up back at this venue on Saturday. Flavien Prat comes in to ride.
#9 EAST AVENUE: Grade 1 victor from the Walsh barn has run a pair of positive races this campaign and might peak in his third run off the layoff. The bay son of Medaglia d’Oro possesses the tactical speed to get into range early, and I expect him to be a menacing figure in the lane after having a clear journey throughout the contest. Tyler Gaffalione riding adds to his appeal.
#2 GRANDE: Curlin colt suffered his first unplaced result in the Alysheba (G2) last time out but has every right to rebound in this offering. The dark bay from the Pletcher barn is two-for-two at the trip and has a versatile running style that can adapt to any pace. The prime win threat will have Rajiv Maragh in the silks.

Pick 4 of the Week: Monmouth Park Saturday, June 13
Three of the four stakes races to be hosted by Monmouth Park on Saturday will be part of the Pick 4 of the Week. Here are some best bets to consider.
Race 4 Wager
- 50-cent Pick 4: 1,6,7 with all with 4,8 with 6,10 ($36)
Best Bets for the 2026 Delaware Derby
Read the full analysis here: Tipsheet: 2026 Delaware Derby
A nice cast of seven sophomores will run 1 1/16 miles over the main strip at Delaware Park in Saturday’s $300,000 Delaware Derby. Who is your best bet for the Delaware Derby?
Delaware Derby Picks
- #6 Big Cuddle
- #4 Litmus Test
- #1 Minorinconvenience
Delaware Derby Wagers
Top Horses for the 2026 Delaware Derby
#6 BIG CUDDLE: Top pick is three-for-four in his lifetime and was quite impressive in defeating the talented Final Story to bag the Sir Barton most recently. The son of Great Notion moved forward with the addition of blinkers last time in his turf bow and could take another step in the right direction second time with the hood on, as well. Yedsit Hazlewood will pilot the bay colt.
#4 LITMUS TEST: Dangerous colt from the Baffert barn has faced tons better in his lifetime and is the class of the cast. The Grade-2 winning son of Nyquist is often quick from the gate, and I expect him to be right there in the early going, with class relief for a potent conditioner with shippers. Jose Ortiz inherits the mount.
#1 MINORINCONVENIENCE: Gray son of Mendelssohn was a distant third in the Sir Barton S. at Laurel Park last out and has room for improvement on Saturday. The Amelia Green trainee didn’t have a fast pace to rally into in his latest but figures to receive a better setup on this day. The gelding will save ground early from the rail under Luis Saez.

Pick 3 of the Week: Churchill Downs Saturday, June 13
A pair of black-type tilts will headline the Saturday card at Churchill Downs, and I will highlight a three-race sequence near the middle of the card for the Pick 3 of the Week.
Race 5 Wager
- $2 Pick 3: 5 with 3,6,7,8 with 1,2,6 ($24)
- 50-cent Pick 3: 4,5 with 3,6,7,8 with 1,2,6 ($12)

Best Bets for the 2026 Chorleywood Stakes
Read the full analysis here: Betting With, and Against, Burnham Square in the Chorleywood Stakes
Grade 1 star #1 Burnham Square (2-5) will lead a field of nine postward in Saturday’s $225,000 Chorleywood S. at Churchill Downs. The 1 3/8-mile jaunt on the lawn attracted some good ones, but the race will go through the imposing Ian Wilkes trainee who has been ultra-impressive since focusing on grass racing. But if you're heart isn't set on the favorite, here are some best bets for you to go with to make seek a more of a hopeful payout.
Burnham Square – With
- $24 exacta 1 with 7 ($24)
- $1 superfecta key 1 with 2,5,6,7 ($24)
Burnham Square – Against
- $24 exacta 7 with 1 ($24)
- $1 superfecta 2,7 with 1,2,7 with 1,2,5,6,7 with 1,2,5,6,7 ($24)
Top Horses for the Chorleywood Stakes
#7 Chapman’s Peak (8-1) might have the best upset chance in the field for trainer Brad Cox. By Quality Road, the four-year-old is out of a very good grassy mare and has been victorious in each of his trio of turf tilts going 1 3/16 miles or longer. The Godolphin homebred was just a half-length behind the favorite in his 2026 debut at Gulfstream and comes off a measured tally at the distance at Keeneland most recently. He has the tactical speed to get the jump on Burnham Square turning for home under Axel Concepcion.
#2 Parchment Party (6-1) is among the better dirt marathoners for conditioner Bill Mott, and while he is unplaced from three career runs on the sod, the Constitution five-year-old is kin to a pair of winners on the green and has to be given some respect. The Grade 3 hero comes in fresh for his third run since a trip to Australia for the Melbourne Cup (G1) in November and will be forwardly placed from the outset beneath go-to pilot Junior Alvarado.
#6 Dancin in Da’nile (12-1) doesn’t fit the win profile with a 4-for-32 lifetime mark, but the gelded seven-year-old rates an exotics chance with something resembling his last performance for Gail Cox. #5 Echo Lane (10-1) is a talented son of Treasure Beach who has improved his Brisnet Speed rating in three straight since stretching out on the lawn and also has top-three appeal with Francisco Arrieta in the stirrups.

How to bet the 2026 San Juan Capistrano Stakes
A deep field of 10 will run a demanding 1 3/4 miles on the Santa Anita green on Sunday in the $100,000 San Juan Capistrano (G3). Multiple graded stakes winner #6 Gold Phoenix is the class of the field, and it’s difficult to go against the ageless gelding in this endeavor. Trained by Phil D’Amato, the eight-year-old continues to run at a high level and will appreciate the measure of class relief in his return to the Golden State.
San Juan Capistrano Wagers
- $15 exacta 6 with 4,5 ($30)
- 50-cent superfecta 6 with 1,4,5 with 1,4,5 with all ($21)

Exotics Plays for the 2026 Cape Henlopen Stakes
A well-matched field of 10 turf stayers will run 1 1/2 miles on the grass at Delaware Park on Saturday in the $200,000 Cape Henlopen S. The turf tilt is one of six stakes races on a huge afternoon of action at the venue and is arguably the most competitive one on paper.
Cape Henlopen Exotics
- $2 exacta key box 8 with 1,4,5 ($12)
- $1 exacta box 1,4,5,8 ($12)
- 50-cent trifecta 8 with 1,4,5 with all ($12)
- 50-cent trifecta 1,4,5 with 8 with all ($12)
- 20-cent superfecta box 1,4,5,8 ($4.80)
