Best Bets and Quick Picks
Finger Lakes: Race 3: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 1:58 p.m. ET)
Pacesetters have won 49% of 5 1/2-furlong sprints at Finger Lakes this meet, and horses drawn in post 1 have compiled an excellent 18% win rate over the same configuration.
These stats bode well for #1 Redhotnotbothered (2-1). The three-year-old gelding set the pace in a six-furlong sprint over this track and class level on Oct. 13 before staying on to finish second, beaten only half a length as the favorite.
Trainer Jonathan Buckley wins at a powerful 38% rate with horses beaten as the favorite in their previous start. Cutting back to 5 1/2 furlongs should help Redhotnotbothered visit the winner’s circle.
Selections
- #1 Redhotnotbothered (2-1)
- #4 Magic Beach (5-2)
- #6 Valiant Warrior (7-2)
Wagers
- $30 to win on #1 Redhotnotbothered
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 3: Maiden Special Weight (one mile and 70 yards on dirt, 3:12 p.m. ET)
#3 Over and Above (9-5) debuted in a 5 1/2-furlong sprint over this track and class level. After tracking the pace in third place, she advanced to finish second.
The speed Over and Above showed sprinting may allow her to secure an uncontested lead while stretching out around two turns. Let’s key her over experienced route racer #5 Timeless Justice (3-1) in an exacta.
Selections
- #3 Over and Above (9-5)
- #5 Timeless Justice (3-1)
- #1 Whakaari (2-1)
Wagers
- $20 Exacta: 3 with 5
Finger Lakes: Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (one mile and 70 yards on dirt, 3:25 p.m. ET)
#4 Katie King (5-1) has been competing on the New York Racing Association circuit. She exits a fourth-place finish in a six-furlong $20,000 maiden claimer at Aqueduct, for which she earned a respectable 64 Brisnet Speed rating.
As a daughter of Belmont (G1) third-place finisher Joevia, Katie King has the potential to improve while stretching out around two turns. Also, she may find the competition easier at Finger Lakes, where trainer Gregory Sacco has compiled a stellar 5-for-11 (45%) record this meet.
At 5-1, a win bet is in order. We’ll also bet Katie King over #6 Isle Blue (2-1) and #5 Ashdale (6-1) in an exacta.
Selections
- #4 Katie King (5-1)
- #6 Isle Blue (2-1)
- #5 Ashdale (6-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #4 Katie King
- $5 Exacta: 4 with 5,6 ($10)
Total: $30
Carryover Watch
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 4: $27,334 Pick 5 carryover (3:43 p.m. ET)
Horseshoe Indianapolis is celebrating the start of Breeders’ Cup week with an enticing $27,334 carryover in the 50-cent Late Pick 5.
It isn’t every week that bettors can chase a five-figure, non-jackpot carryover on a Monday, so don’t let this opportunity slip away.
For the most part, the Late Pick 5 sequence is packed with large fields. Four of the five races have drawn between 11 and 16 entries, though also-eligible entrants abound, and several of the fields will be limited to 10 starters. Before scratches, there are 190,080 possible outcomes to analyze, but once also-eligibles are removed from the count, the number of possibilities drops to a more manageable 66,000.
We can simplify the sequence even further by singling heavy favorite #1 Night Kiss (3-5) in Race 4, the opening leg of the Late Pick 5. It’s a $12,000 starter optional claimer for fillies and mares sprinting 5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, and with only six entries, it’s the perfect spot to seek a single.
Night Kiss has shown strong form in all six of her 2025 starts at Horseshoe Indianapolis. She started the year with a win (via disqualification) in a six-furlong $62,500 allowance optional claimer. Then she finished second in back-to-back $62,500 and $50,000 allowance optional claimers racing two turns.
Cutting back to six furlongs returned Night Kiss to her winning ways. She’s rattled off three straight wins in $20,000 and $8,000 starter optional claimers, earning sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 91, 82, and 86. All those numbers are higher than the par winning Brisnet Speed rating (80) for Monday’s conditions.
One of Night Kiss’ most impressive wins came on Sept. 5 in an $8,000 starter optional claimer. She launched a last-to-first rally to dominate by four lengths over a field including #6 Beach Kitten (3-1) and #3 Cactus Flower (5-1), two of her main Monday rivals. Night Kiss has also recently defeated #5 Caumsett (20-1) in decisive fashion.
In short, what’s not to like? Night Kiss loves sprinting, enters in hot form, and has already beaten three of her five Race 4 rivals with ease. She’s a compelling single to start the Late Pick 5.
Good luck!
