Best Bets and Quick Picks
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: $20,000 Maiden Claiming (one mile on turf, 4:14 p.m. ET)
#7 Midnight Eve (12-1) hasn’t shown much in three starts against maiden special weight competition, but two of those were dirt races, and one was won by Percy’s Bar, who has since placed multiple times at the Grade 1 level.
Dropping in class for a $20,000 maiden claimer at Horseshoe Indianapolis may help Midnight Eve vie for victory at double-digit odds. Let’s bet her to win and play her with logical favorite #2 Justifiable Steel (9-5) in the exacta.
Selections
- #7 Midnight Eve (12-1)
- #2 Justifiable Steel (9-5)
- #6 Divine Celina (7-2)
Wagers
- $14 to win on #7 Midnight Eve
- $8 Exacta: 2 with 7
- $3 Exacta: 7 with 2
Total: $25
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 6: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 4:45 p.m. ET)
#1 Tail Gunner (6-1) debuted in a one-mile maiden special weight at Horseshoe Indianapolis. After dropping 7 1/2 lengths off the early lead, he made a midrace move to challenge for command, only to falter in the final quarter-mile and finish third.
Trainer Anthony Granitz wins at a 20% rate with second-time starters, and cutting back to 5 1/2 furlongs may help Tail Gunner sustain his run to the finish line. A win bet is in order.
Selections
- #1 Tail Gunner (6-1)
- #11 Thousands of Hopes (7-2)
- #8 Trust the Word (20-1)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #1 Tail Gunner
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 7: Maiden Special Weight (five furlongs on turf, 5:16 p.m. ET)
#8 Humor Me Baby (5-2) has shown some ability in Kentucky, most notably finishing second in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight on turf at Ellis Park. That effort yielded a sharp 72 Brisnet Speed rating, the highest number belonging to any filly entered in Race 7.
Humor Me Baby should find the competition a bit easier at Horseshoe Indianapolis, where trainer Brendan Walsh has compiled a strong 11-for-50 (22%) record this meet. Let’s place a win bet on Humor Me Baby, then bet her over #10 Howyoudosomething (9-2) in an exacta.
Selections
- #8 Humor Me Baby (5-2)
- #10 Howyoudosomething (9-2)
- #2 Dream Chick (6-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #8 Humor Me Baby
- $5 Exacta: 8 with 10
Total: $30
Good luck!
