With the Kentucky Derby Dream Bet you get the opportunity to place a $10,000 Win bet on a single horse. In addition to the free Derby bet, you could win a trip to the 2017 Kentucky Derby itself.

The Kentucky Derby Dream bet is rooted in excitement and tradition. The popular contest returns in 2017 with a chance to not only win a free $10,000 Win bet on the Kentucky Derby, but additional prizes that combine to a total value of $25,000, which includes a trip for two to the first Saturday in May.

Just ask past winners Glen Fullerton, David Flores and David Hoyt about their experiences placing a big Kentucky Derby free bet.

Glen Fullerton of Houston, Texas won the contest with Super Saver in 2010. Fullerton emphasizes, “Participating in the Derby Dream Bet experience will forever be one of my greatest life experiences.”

Chicago, Illinois native David Flores made an intelligent bet on Mucho Macho Man, who ran third in the 2011 Kentucky Derby. Flores explained that he enjoyed the experience, especially the VIP treatment during the trip for two to the Derby, though missing the free bet.

David Hoyt won the Kentucky Derby Dream Bet contest in 2016. More of a self described racing fan than hardcore handicapper, David shares his experiences of that moment with us. He also didn't shy away for explaining his participation in the 2017 competition.

"I’ve made the finals (for this year’s Kentucky Derby Dream Bet). It’s not too hard to make the finals,” David admitted. “I will be playing in this every year that (TwinSpires has) it from now on...We’ll just see how it goes. Why not go back I say.”

The contest to qualify for the free bet lasts two rounds with a qualifying round Feb. 4 through March 26 and a final round April 1 through April 15. To progress past the qualifying round and arrive in the final round, cash a $5 WIN bet on a single horse in any of the 16 Road to the Kentucky Derby races found at the Opt-in link below. Just one win will get you into the final, but the more qualifying wins you rack up, the more you increase the chances of winning the contest.  

Players can also compete for Kentucky Derby and Oaks tickets, and Kentucky Derby merchandise by cashing the most winning contest wagers as they can during the Qualifying Round.

The final round becomes more challenging for the horse players. Participation requires a $5 Win/Place (combination) bet on a single horse in at least four of seven final round races. The highest gross winnings from all final round bets by a player, wins a Kentucky Derby weekend for two and the right to direct Churchill Downs Incorporated or affiliate to place a free $10,000 Win bet on the Kentucky Derby.
