Best Bets and Quick Picks
Mahoning Valley: Race 6: $10,000 Claiming (six furlongs on dirt, 3:04 p.m. ET)
#6 Cavaletto (2-1) is dropping in class and returning from a five-month freshening. She was last seen finishing second, fifth, and sixth in a trio of six-furlong allowances at Thistledown.
Cavaletto’s 8-2-2-2 lifetime record at Mahoning Valley is better than her 8-0-2-2 record at all other tracks, so returning to the site of her two victories can trigger a winning run for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Erik Barbaran and Robert Gorham.
Let’s bet Cavaletto to win and key her over #7 Prayed Today (9-5) in the exacta.
Selections
- #6 Cavaletto (2-1)
- #7 Prayed Today (9-5)
- #2 Country Ruckus (7-2)
Wagers
- $18 to win on #6 Cavaletto
- $7 Exacta: 6 with 7
Total: $25
Zia Park: Race 4: Allowance (six furlongs on dirt, 3:29 p.m. ET)
#1 American Solo (9-2) owns the best string of recent Brisnet Speed ratings in this field. Most notably, he posted a 78 (the highest last-out number of any entrant) when finishing fifth by three lengths in a $7,500 claimer at Zia Park last month.
American Solo was claimed out of that effort by hot trainer Andres Gonzalez, a 31% winner at Zia Park this meet. Gonzalez wins at a 23% rate with new claiming acquisitions, so at 9-2 American Solo is worthy of a win bet.
Selections
- #1 American Solo (9-2)
- #3 Maximum Bull (9-5)
- #6 Indy’s Song (4-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #1 American Solo
Zia Park: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (6 1/2 furlongs on dirt, 3:57 p.m. ET)
#3 Truckin (4-1) has cracked the trifecta in each of his last four starts, including a trio of maiden special weights at Albuquerque. In his latest effort, Truckin finished third behind a pair of next-out winners, earning a career-best 74 Brisnet Speed rating.
That 74 stacks up well against Tuesday’s field, and Truckin has already defeated #8 Compelling Uncle (2-1) and #6 Right in Front (8-1), the only entrants who have run faster on the Brisnet Speed rating scale.
Truckin looms as a serious contender for hot trainer Sherry Armstrong, a 23% winner to start the Zia Park meet. Let’s bet him to win.
Selections
- #3 Truckin (4-1)
- #8 Compelling Uncle (2-1)
- #4 Golden Creek (5-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #3 Truckin
Good luck!
